Bit of a meta bit to this one, as indeed when Valerie's costume was first designed it was black. Also her hair was tucked inside and it had red over the eyes, as well as gloves. Same basic design but still one of the more drastic shifts.

Actually came about through some fun I had with coloring. Maybe dark variants of the group's outfits, with her's naturally winding white as opposed to black. Adam liked the look of it so we rolled with it. That's been ages ago, though - most costumes have remained pretty much the same, but that one got some tweaking as did Andy's while Jenny's was completely redesigned. Originally it had sort of a The Question faceless kind of thing going for it and was primarily white. It didn't really look the best from a coloring or design standpoint, but some influences in it are still present.

Out of all the costume changes, Jenny's was the most drastic. Her original design was totally different. It was all in soft pastels of cream, purple, and reddish-pink, like Easter candy. Her mask came over her eyes and mouth, making her face look similar to Spoiler.

I looked back on this a while later (presumably after sobering up) and it was clear she needed a re-design, so I tried something else. The crash helmet and gauntlets were always part of the costume, but I made them more prominent and since the Spoiler-Mask was hard to emote with, I had her eyes visible. When I sent it to Martin, he did a bunch of different coloring jobs and I mixed and matched for the one she has now.

Heh. Well, Martin already summed up a lot of the talk on Valerie's costume. Can only add that a major inspiration for the costume was Bane, since, as I mentioned, the costume was meant to look tough (hence why it was originally black and the red eye coverings). The top and sleeves of the costume were changed slightly too while messing around, and I realized it came out looking like a Starfleet uniform so ultimately went with that. The "C" letter is even where her communicator would be. ^^

Eheh... Though about the hair... Like Martin said, it was originally crammed under the mask. The reason it's in a ponytail now is because I absent-mindedly drew it that way one day. I didn't notice it until Martin IMed me saying he liked the addition.
