I dunno if you guys have noticed, but the panel number for Blues has really shot up lately. Main reason is that for this chapter we've got a lot of stuff to cover so I need to cram stuff into each page to keep things moving at a reasonable pace. Also the layout is usually more varied as opposed to the typical "Cut into four equals" thing.

Doing the four equals thing again here (well, aside from that one mini-panel of Lore getting fire-blanketed) felt kinda boring, honestly. I had a lot of trouble actually filling up space in the pages, hence why I threw Jake and the bear in the second panel background. I had felt guilty for a while writing the scripts and making every page so jam-packed, but falling back into this made me realize this particular way of doing pages is probably going to happen less and less.

So yeah, that guy was turned into a wildfire. I thought it would be a pretty weird, neat idea to try out. ^^ Was kinda thinking of TF2's Pyro when I did the gas-mask thing and when Martin brought up the transformation idea....

Not a lot to say... "Matchstick" was one of Ben Grimm's nicknames for Johnny Storm on the Fantastic Four, so there's that.... Oh, idea between the bear thing here and last time is that Alex ran in low under it to hit its stomach and used its momentum to flip it over his head into that wall. I dunno how clear that came out last time.

I kind of got some wires crossed at a point on this page and thought that was supposed to be Nicky in the last two panels, not helped by the goggles initially being missing from the page. It wound up an easy fix but still, embarrassing.

Anyway, yeah. I guess if it helps with Blues picking up the panel count, WaR and BP are doing it too. They should be doing it more often that they do really given they have more space to work with, but I tend to run pages however long is needed for what feels right to them as opposed to just trying to cram in as much content as possible.

Anyway, look, vine detailing! We'll have more detail in the background coming toward the end of this sequence but for now you'll have to live with just that. In its own right I think it makes them look much more stringy and plant-like.

Kind of weird how that desk isn't casting a shadow in any of the panels, though. We need to start paying attention to that aspect of things a bit more.

Alex might be in a lightweight body but he can still pull off impressive counters, looks like he's adapted to Dorothy's body nicely by this point.

Heheh.... Well, in all fairness even in his own body I doubt he could wrestle a bear straight-on.

Ironic, one of the nature people's power is fire.

Heheh... Idea is that he's a wild-fire. Though even some environmental conservation groups like park rangers will used controlled, limited fire bursts to burn away overgrown sections of forest in order to preserve wildlife. ^^
