This almost wound up being like last week's - wasn't paying attention to the time and instead was engrossed in something else waiting on Adam to get on, eventually realized how late it was, then discovered I needed to export it myself again due to not getting the PNG. Just this time it wound up being noticed and accounted for on time.

Grandma's next to me yammering about nothing, which is the single most irritating thing in my life and something that goes on all day, every day, so not sure how much I really have to say here since I just kind of want to get it over with so I can leave the room.

One thing that does come to mind to mention was that I was the one who pointed out that maybe something should be put in about Spencer regretting the attack on Howlend; doesn't really fit the direction his character's wound up going since or some of the later plans that've since been come up with for him, so that whole thing is kind of a distracting little black mark on the character as it stands. I probably would've put more focus on that aspect of it, but it's a really long, really busy chapter, so can't give everything a lot of focus right now.

Really need to tighten things up on Spencer somewhat art-wise I think; seems like his redesign hasn't really actually shown up in the comic at all. Don't think the redesign entirely fit him anyway so fine with changing it but still, if I were Adam would try and at least make his face a little bit more distinct than it's been coming out.

Yeah, Spencer was a hard one to re-design, especially since his design is probably the most anime-ish of all the characters in the comics. This page does especially drop the ball on it, though, particularly in that fourth panel.

This is kinda the point where these two started to surprise me in their chemistry. The idea for this in the script was that Spencer does show briefly that he's genuinely afraid for his life and not out for revenge, and Jake relents over this even though he doesn't particularly like the guy.

When I was actually drawing the picture though.... Something else occurred to me for both. The revelation Spencer was wearing pants and shoes under the blanket was always going to be the joke, but seeing it play out and how he changed on a dime... Yeah, now I'm not sure just how much he's doing this out of revenge and how much he really is frightened for his life. Both certainly, but think it's an open question which one is pushing him more.

Jake kinda amuses me more. Actually drawing him in this page something about him occurred to me too; he's not holding out on Spencer because he doesn't want to stop Antlers. He does, and was probably going to agree to team up when he arrived at the penthouse. He was just holding out to see if Spencer would beg for it. It's only after he drops the playboy billionaire pretense (or pretends to) that Jake accepts; still not begging but probably realizes that's as good as he'll get.

Those are just my interpretations of this scene, and both only occurred to me after drawing them. I dunno, that's why I love these two together.

But yeah, Martin had the idea to fix it so Spencer would be remorseful over the whole Howlend thing.... Granted after presenting it like this who knows how true that is. I feel pretty bad about the way this was gonna be set up; didn't think I'd sleep this late.

I've been watching too much Archer. Spencer's original line at the end of Panel 2 was ".... Doesn't it?"

I guess that does beat the alternative.
