I'm having some second thoughts on this ending since it feels both really rushed and very drawn out, but there are some specific moments I wanted to get out before we finished up. Saturday's page will be the last one in the chapter, then the comic'll go on hiatus for a month... Sorry, but we need time to build up a page buffer.

Anyway... Yeah. This conversation came from two places; first I didn't think it was in character for Jake to let the kids hear that speech from Mech without some kind of counterpoint. Secondly, as the chapter was unfolding I somehow got roped into a conversation with a fan about which of the kids would be least willing to kill someone.... Dunno how we got on that topic, but replied "Trick question; Jake would do it first." Then it occurred to me that in my headcanon for a while, Jake's long and very weird life likely meant that at some point he was in the military so... he probably HAD killed before.

Like I said, Mech's speech in the last page wasn't quite wrong, it was just not the best thing for the kids to hear after such a long night. Jake's counterpoint doesn't necessarily dispute it but does point out that it's a bit more complicated than he's making it sound.

I think I love Jake because whenever the guy gets something big to do he winds up surprising me... After I did this page two things kinda occurred to me that I didn't think of in the script. Jake's subtly telling trying to tell the kids that if they ARE put in a situation where they have to kill that doesn't necessarily make them bad people, and..... I get the feeling part of the reason Jake is sticking with the kids now is so if the situation does arise when a trigger needs to be pulled he'll do it so they won't have to. I dunno, that's just something that's occurring to me now but think it fits him.....

Also, I had to tweak the script at the last minute. Jake's original line in the penultimate panel read "...I agreed to be your.... coach, I guess...." I think coach might be kinda close to his function with the group but it's not quite right. I didn't want to give Jake's position to the kids a precise name; he's not their teacher, he's not their friend, he's not their sensei, he's not their uncle, he's not their coach. He's Jake.

We're going to need to get used to the fact Comic Fury doesn't account for Daylight Savings. Rather annoying. So... Yeah, guess this is already up, might as well comment on it now if only because working on WaR scripts is going nowhere.

Yeah, not sure how much I've really got to say on this one. Mortality in the comics is certainly something we'll be touching on more than just this one time, but this is a good starting point for it to be sure. Could probably see a scene at some point down the line when Grant discusses the matter with Alex.

Not sure what else I've got here offhand. Do find it kind of funny that the janitor in this comic's killed somebody but the antihero / antivillain / whatever they are spy / witch pair working for a criminal organization in WaR probably hasn't. Though they have escorted people to the afterlife, close enough?

Well this is certainly an interesting page, and listen to this the main villain of Final Fantasy 5 Exdeath was a tree that had been turned into a monster by an evil spirit.

Heheh... Yeah, played that as a kid, stuck in my mind. Remembered thinking when I got to that twist, "Y'know, it would've been cooler if he were a tree throughout the whole game and not this Sauron-looking guy."
