.....

Yeah. Chapter's not so funny anymore, is it?

Kinda tried to make this little image as shocking as possible. ^^ Will leave most of the discussion to that for Martin since he added a lot of "Umph" to the final panel. Creeped me out when I first saw it.

This was how Quartz' chapter was always meant to end. If you go back and look at the various flashback pages, you'll notice that Quartz originally had a fuller build and square jaw. With each new flashback his jaw gets thinner and his appearance more disheveled as his body atrophies under the suit. Yeah, that suit has not been doing him favors long-term.

The clothes, if you're wondering, are meant to be ragged, decayed versions of the clothes he was wearing when the suit first got attached. Guess they've been under there all this time. Would've been more shocking if he were naked, but... Yeah, that wasn't gonna fly in this comic.

I tried to make this look both horrifying and glorious. Yes, it's shocking to see Quartz's shriveled body, but it's also an amazing moment for Marvelous Man. Look at that bold, heroic pose, the light from all the cameras flashing off him. It was trying to capture the spirit of something like Action Comics #1's cover in terms of imagery.

Related to that, originally this was gonna happen with Quartz trying to tell Marvelous Man about the kids (who were hiding still in their costumes) and then having the suit conveniently ripped off before he could finish talking. I like this way more since Marvelous Man doing it to protect the kids feels more natural, and the kids having changed clothes means they didn't need to rely on dumb luck to keep things secret.

Yeah, really wanted to make this horrific and to that end, in coloring I decided to really play up the effect it had on his body, making it look wrinkled and darkened like it's been seriously screwing him up for a long time now. Kind of like his whole body's been atrophied by the suit being the thing used for all his movement and stuff instead.

Funny thing, actually beyond that not entirely sure how much I've got to say on this since I think Adam pretty well handled it. Did first show him this - well, an in-progress version that was since toned down a bit - on the phone and his response was pretty immediate and shocked. Forget exactly what he said but it probably wasn't PG anyway.

That being said, we'll get to the fallout of this over the next few pages - four left to go in this chapter - and... Yeah, the fun and jokes that've been going on throughout this one are over.

Might want to change the background colour in the last panel slightly. The yellow in the suit gets lost easy.

Atleast he should survive:)

Heheh... I think it sorta works; don't seem to blend into it too much for me. As for surviving.... It's not clear. Remember when he mentioned the suit was permanently attached to his spine?
