BOOM! Brand-new special-effects job from Martin. ^^ Will let him get into this since it was his idea through-and-through, but looks awesome. My favorite part are the clouds. Don't those look awesome? Look at those clouds!

Yeah, this was kind of a natural way to take the whole "Valerie siphons energy off Heather" thing, and liked exploring the concept of her powers being seen as dangerous. Also kinda nicely implies just how much energy Heather is always holding in. I like how until she fired that off, she had her arms in that same pose Heather always does where they're clutched to her chest.

A minor touch from Martin I didn't even spot at first is that Valerie only has the red, overheated color-scheme in the first two panels, then slowly cools down.

Really do need to do more to give the Blues center a better identity; everyplace in there looks identical.

The fire and cloud effects basically came about from fiddling around with Manga Studio's features trying to find something that would make the fire look better than it usually does, since it's something we've complained about in the past of being hard to get to look any sort of decent. Still a learning experience working with it - will say now I'm working on the next page presently and think the clouds in it look a lot better than these ones do - but hey, it's fairly simple and it really does make things look a lot better, so expect that to be the norm for fire, smoke, and similar things going forward.

In either case, is good to get a bit more directly into the Valerie and Nicky's parents issue here. Of course, it's a rather inconveniently-timed meet-up, though imagine regardless Valerie wouldn't be especially pleased to see them given what we know of the relationship.

There's an aspect of this page that'll probably lead us to linking to it for something down the line, but that's a subject for another day.
