This page was one of the hardest in the chapter to write. A lot of the relationship between Valerie and her folks is kinda self-evident so I didn't really have much to say. And I don't really wanna settle anything now when this stuff is coming up later.... Was just really hard to get right in putting it together.

I did really like having Valerie be uncharacteristically angry here. She's hot-headed in general, but thought this kinda conveyed that this was a sensitive topic for her...

On that note, Jake's facial expressions have been really, REALLY hard to do this chapter. Like, it's been driving me nuts. He's a character who works because he's low-key and stoic, but you can still tell he cares. The problem is that he shouldn't be expressing it too much so I keep going back and forth with how expressive he is versus how stoic he is. Just in writing these comments I opened up the page and made a last-minute change to his expression to look more stoic. He's in general the hardest character to nail down and understand.

At one point I really figured most of Valerie's issues would be with her Mom and her dad was kinda more doting on Nicky. I kinda switched the dynamic because I didn't realize how much their folks look like their same-gender children. Felt weird doing it like that.

Oh, hey, there's Guin with what's presumably her dad. .... Hm. Who else wants Twinkies suddenly?

Even better clouds! And blushing! That blushing was actually a pain to figure out how to make look any sort of decent, since the process for this whole thing is kind of still a learning process. Though think I've figured out a few decent tricks of the trade with it by now, this was a few pages ago.

Not sure what else I've got to say offhand, but do like how this one came out. Do like the line Jake walks in this chapter, tricky though it is, of kind of being willing to step in and help when needed but at the same time, clearly not quite being an expert or knowing how to speak on things like this. Think he feels pretty human in that way, someone who really at any given time likely has a lot going on in his head and is just trying to do whatever he can.

Wonder just how often this happens. Wouldn't be surprised if most any time Valerie ends up talking to her parents it ends in her storming off.

I've never had a Twinkie and I don't plan on ever eating one, poor Val having parents who just don't understand her.

You say that now, but stare at this for five minutes!
