Whew... Okay, where to start on this one....

I really don't like doing spotlight chapters that focus mostly on ONE character out of the Blues kids; I really like that group as an ensemble cast. This one though... What we're trying to do for this chapter is something that we could only do by focusing heavily on Grant, so it WILL be spotlighting him.

So... Yeah. He's been taking that "You can never be a hero again" thing kinda rough. We also get a bit on the subject of Grant's parents, which is something we've never really examined much.... Sadly I don't think we'll discuss it THAT much; had more planned for the topic than we'll likely go into.

Martin's coloring job added a lot to make this page more effective, but should let him get into that. ^^ The cell-phone thing was also Martin's idea. It uh... Kinda needed to be explained to me that kids around Grant or Valerie's age might have cell phones. Given when I was their age that was unheard of, felt weird to know it. Grant's parents seem well-to-do and probably don't mind sending him stuff, so made sense he'd have a cell phone.

So how obvious is it what subject Miss Tickle is teaching the kids in Panel 3?

Yeah, this page is a... bleak way to start. Pretty much directly spells out right from the get-go that we're focusing primarily on Grant this time around, which is a break from form but as Adam said, pretty much needed for what we want to do with this one.

There were a lot of little touches that went into this one coloring-wise. One big one is I made a deliberate attempt to avoid having Grant wear blue, except within Tickle having him dressed up where I specifically based the color scheme off the Songbird costume. All pretty much with the same goal in mind, kind of showing just how distant he is from his usual self in all of this. That's also why he's wearing only short sleeves this time around - break from form, showing that things are just plain not normal with Grant right now. Move to also avoid the superhero imagery with him given that.

Another thing is that in drawing the page Adam had the idea of it all being set over one day, but in coloring I went with the constant color changes to make it multiple. Think it worked better for depicting the slow drain of everything and just how out of it Grant is feeling in the face of all this.

That being said, be a little bit past this page before we dive back into this leg of the plot. Next time we check in with Marvelous Man.

Makes sense that Grant was hit the hardest by this, wonder what MM is up to.

Yeaaaah, he took this pretty hard. Do hope you'll enjoy what we've got planned, though. ^^

It looks like Ms. Tickle is teaching about how Ecosystems work.

Birds eat the insects that pollinate the plants. Or something.
