I really do NOT remember how the idea for this group came around but was a really vague idea me and Martin tossed back and forth until it was hammered out juuust in time for their debut here. Their thing is that they're a super-reactionary group who hate the way super-powers and magic have changed the world and are trying to discredit both and make it illegal... by handing out pamphlets and raising awareness. I imagine they're gonna show up later, but they're pretty clear Harmless Villains who aren't much threat to anyone.

Did try to give them a sort of humor and charm though, especially with Emma (the girl in the beret) getting right up in Nine Eyes' face like that. She's kind of so impossibly goody-goody that I absolutely have to see more of her. The other two members of the group were sort of designed to be a straw liberal and a straw conservative just to keep the group from feeling too much like any one political party.

Was just the perfect punchline to having everyone constantly screaming and clearly about to start killing each other to have these wholesome folks come out to try and put the proverbial flowers in their gunbarrels. It was the tipping point to everyone finally deciding to start shooting. Don't worry, I'm sure they all made it through just fine.

Also I kinda wanted to outright mention that Weapon isn't just freakishly big; it's actual gigantism. Don't think we've actually come out and said it. One thing I learned from Martin like years ago when we first starting talking was that people with gigantism have to have surgery to disable the pituitary gland to keep it from eventually killing them. I've been trying to be more accurate with Weapon's proportions this time around and wound up Googling pictures of Andre and Big Show and the like to see how they look compared to people without the condition.

Yeah, the idea for CANDLE I believe came from just some messing around on the side with some things and some quick talk arising from it about the potential of a moral crusaders gimmick and how it could fill a useful niche in both comics. Quickly got to ironing it out and here it is - idea really came together so quick that the members weren't actually named until this page was written (and even then only in the narration), but we pretty quickly got a handle on what exactly we wanted to do with them.

That said though I have no idea when they'll pop up again right off. We've got plans in place for CANDLE to show up both further in Blues and also in WaR, but don't really know exactly when that will happen. Still, this page is a pretty good start with them I think.

...yeah, I still say 'CULT!' A cult of uber-equalists who unlike the Equalists from Avatar lack any of the necessary awesome-ness to remotely back up their attempts at not looking like idiots. I mean they all seem well-meaning but they are REALLY kinda being rude and heavily presumptuous. From believing Martina had no agency or choice in her pursuit of magic and for it had to be 'put up to it', to the guy with Gigantism, who that guy just assumed was hopped up on magic instead of dealing with a real medical thing.

Yeah, I can honestly say I am WITH Martina and all them on brutally harming these guys. Carry on. And I CAN'T WAIT for these idiots to pop back up at the Blue Blood school acting like is gonna be hilariously bad for them. OH, or for them to meet Marvelous Man! I bet they'd LOVE to try and talk him into giving up his powers...

I just talked myself into wanting either these guys to live, or for MORE of them to show up...

HA! Yeah, good point, they're kinda like if the Equalists from Avatar consisted entirely of that one guy who stood in the park with the loudspeaker. Yeah, I think with Emma, the one with the beret, she's really sweet but misguided and the other two members have rather nasty feelings that they're trying to push.

Heh... Okay, wait, I've actually never thought about them fighting Marvelous Man. I don't even know how that would go but I might need to try and work it in now. Don't worry, they're definitely gonna live.

I shall look forward to the pain and torment they will bring upon themselves in the future in their own well-meaning quest for equality.

Ooh, they’re gonna have a field day with Marvelous Man. They’re definitely bringing up how he’s done more damage than good, and I’m positive that he’s not gonna be happy...

Heheh... Yeah, kinda didn't think about Marvelous Man before this. ^^ I'm probably gonna need to get out from that.

Yeah they're harmless just annoying and irritating, the kids are still heading toward trouble since the cyborgs and Gwendolyn haven't appeared yet.
