Heheh.... Like I said; treasure hunt stories with a twist. ^^ Remember the last panel here? This is what happened between that and the page that came after. It wasn't for nothing after all; our heroes got away with the goods.

Yeah, I wanted to have our heroes think of a smart solution to an unusual problem, and thought this was a good twist on things. ^^ Have our heroes use their brains to think up a quick and reasonable safety net. Now that they have the spell all they have to do is translate it.

Overlaying the conversation over all the other players who went home empty-handed was a kind of way to remind the readers that everyone else thinks the book is destroyed and the spell was lost, so there's no risk of them coming to the school to try and steal it. Also was cool to just get one more shot of everyone who guest-starred in this chapter to show how they're all doing. In particular we see Martina's keeping that arm... Was nice getting to see Sareena's grandpa too.

Kind of a pity we don't see Vespi after this. That last panel is her going back home. I kinda wanted to wrap up and didn't want a page for a good-bye. There's only three pages left for this chapter.

Anybody see this coming? I think at least one commenter mentioned it, and I'm curious if it was obvious. Really do love catching you guys unawares. ^^

Heh. Yeah, kind of wonder how well this has been hidden - really on a level I didn't want it to be that much so since was kind of afraid of people feeling like it was a cheat to have no one actually end up with it.

So yeah, the kids won after all! CANDLE let us down so this is a bad ending all around when you think about it.

The sepia was actually pretty complex to do on this one, for a variety of reasons. Ordinary anymore I do that by doing the colors in MS then making the panel sepia in Paint.net and pasting it back over then doing the higher layers over it, but this one between having Adam handle the hair details beforehand this time, the night, the glow effect, and having already done the gradient wound up instead needing to basically layer that panel over the entire rest of the page. We should probably insert the colored one in the comments here, now that I think about it.

In either case hopefully everyone's enjoyed the ride getting here. Kind of wish Vespi got more of a sendoff, but it most likely won't be very long before she shows up again anyway.

I honestly suspected they took pictures of the pages with their phones, it's not a new idea, in a cartoon I watch the female MC had her master/mentor copy a really important book onto his phone so she could return the book to the male MC's father and get him out of trouble. Wonder what's going to happen next.

Gaaaah, and I thought it was clever too. Only other time I've seen it done is in spy films where they have to photograph documents. Ah, well. ^^ What was the show?

"Miraculous Ladybug" the episodes "Volpina" and "The Collector" involve the book I mentioned.

Same result but different method from what I was thinking.
I was thinking a defence where a copy of the book is produced where it was found if it’s destroyed. A reset function if you will.
Only the first dozen pages? Can’t copy what you can’t see...
