Heh. Lot to say about this page, but really, REALLY love Martin's coloring job. ^^ Will talk when I get in tonight.

Feels a little weird commenting on this one before Adam but yeah.

Naturally I was going for the theme coloring with Margaret here, making her and Marvelous Man match somewhat. Felt like an appropriate little thing (well, maybe appropriate is the wrong word...) that would put over the situation a bit more, and Adam wound up really liking that touch. I'll let him speak on it more.

On another note, this guy! Remember this page?

Yeah, that was going somewhere and we've had a plan in place for a LONG time on that. We were split how to go about approaching one particular aspect, but it'll be easier to go into that down the line.

Also you may notice that couple in the second panel near the guy looking for blackmail material is Grant's parents. Key word being may given we've barely ever seen them.

Whew... Okay, a lot to unpack here. Firstly really love how MM's new suit looks; something both more heroic and more villainous about it. But more freaky to me is Margret's outfit. While we haven't seen her much I still get the impression she's left enough of an impact to imply that this get-up is strangely Out Of Character for her to be wearing. I just put it in the script as a casual detail; I was surprised by how much it weirded me out in both the lineart and the coloring job. There's such a creepy "doll" quality to it that I didn't see coming, and Martin giving her Marvelous Man's color scheme just made it even worse. Really nice job on that one. ^^

As for the blackmail guy who's been tailing Marvelous Man... that's admittedly a bit of a dropped ball on my part. I kinda meant for him to be turning up several other times in the background watching him. But because it kept slipping my mind (and since Halloween we honestly haven't seen MM in public much) we just have to assume he's been doing that offscreen someplace. Sorry about that one, folks. Actually revealing his "deal" involved some back-and-forth between me and Martin, but don't worry; it'll be explained in THIS chapter. Not gonna let it linger for years or anything.

But yeah, we've shown the status quo on the Blues side; I just wanted to illustrate what life is like for Marvelous Man now that he's "won." Telepathy means he's now completely free from any oversight or disagreement and he has no issue using it on anyone to get what he wants.

Grant mentioned in the last page that his parents were at a "charity event" so there we are. ^^ I just kinda knew this climax would need to involve something along these lines I just wasn't sure what it would be. Figured that a fundraiser for a domestic abuse shelter was weirdly fitting given Marvelous Man's situation with Margret.

Speaking of, a few extras of note.... Those two standing just by the banner are based off the Elric brothers, with one having his arm in a sling, and the woman in front of them with the black eye is White Pearl from Steven Universe. When first drawing the page those were just the two that immediately came to mind when I was trying to think of people in abusive situations. Especially since I was reallllly eager to draw White Pearl. Hell, even made the skirt pink to show my support of the "Pearl Switch" theory.

...Yeah, honestly anything I could say about MM in this has already been said. Either by myself or someone else. So I will instead focus on Mr. Blackmail! He seems interesting, and I look forward to learning his motivations behind hunting blackmail material!

Also whenever I hear about a PR guy being involved in a hero’s look, I immediately remember Iron Man 3...and immediately think “FOCUS TESTING!” Maybe if he had focus tested, he’d realize how gaudy the new look is.

And lastly...I like Maggie’s expression in ‘panel 2’. The big group panel shot. It looks like a pained smile. It might b unintentional but it looks so disbelieving like some tiny part of her is trying to scream WTF.

Dose MM not know his powers mostly can't work on other blues? and I bat Jake has all ready face a guy with powers like MM's

Firstly, Insomniac’s mental powers and Marvelous Man’s are not the same, thought they may function in similar/the same ways. Marvelous man’s came from a source that was not to our knowledge a blue blood. And Marvelous Man has no reason to believe blue bloods would have a resistance to mental powers after he got whammied by Insomniac, having believed his resistance was his own will power at the time.

In Insomniac’s own words back in Blues in the Night, page 23, “Blue bloods have higher brain wave function than normal humans”, “It appears to make you resistant to my telepathy”, “But not Immune”. Plus Insomniac did indeed have a devastating effect against the children even if he didn’t have ‘full effect’ by making jenny ‘blind’ and tricking Lore into believing her power was something else entirely.

Far as Jake though, I’d be surprised if he didn’t have some counter measure somewhere to the possibility of mind control. Totally agree he should have SOMETHING!
babygirl 5th Sep 2018, 8:24 AM edit delete reply
You have a point on that, but why'll Insomniac could mass with there heads he could not straight up mind control them.

All so didn't that child doctor that MM saw said the mental powers come from the same person? And lastly didn't Insomniac all most did kind of the same thing MM is doing but Insomniac did it to the Dark skull guy.

I just reread the conversation about the source of Marvelous Man’s mental powers and Doc Mariposa never mentioned them coming from the same source as Insomniac’s. Insomniac never even came up. It is POSSIBLE, and I won’t dispute that, but it was never outright stated by the doctor.

And the key differences between that situation and this, is that the Insomniac was dealing with a clearly mentally ill man who was a verifiable danger to himself and others, and while doing so he made a point of questioning the moral implications and questioning if he had the right to do so. The most doubt Marvelous Man shows is ‘I mean, it’s not mind control or anything like that.’ As if there is a worthwhile difference between what he is currently doing and mind control...what he is currently doing to hopefully non-criminal individuals like his friend/‘fiance’, and that guy who works with him and was just questioning him if he discussed the costume change with anyone else. Same base premise, won’t deny that, but entirely different situations.

The source of the mental powers that MM has came from another Super who died. Mariposa saved her brain like the creepypasta doc she is, and took the DNA for the power from that and genetically altered MM to have it as well.

So no, it's not from Insomniac. However, the Blues might still have a resistance, as Rastaba says.

That being said, I really can't wait to see MM fall from this. I hope it's something like, he loses all his powers, and gets trapped in Limbo for eternity. Forced to relive all the awful things he did, from the victim's perspective.

Okay, wanna say offhand I friggin' love the discussion here and really been enjoying it. ^^ But... I think Marvelous Man's powers are more-or-less the same as Insomniac despite the different source, he just uses them with a lot less finesse. He can't make illusions or tweak thoughts or anything, he can just read minds and brute-force commands. I think any difference with their abilities come less from the source and more just that's how he tends to use his powers in general.

Jake probably is susceptible to any mind-tampering, and while the Blues kids are immune that wouldn't matter much if Jake was "convinced" to turn himself in and confess anything. They couldn't exactly punch Marvelous Man after a confession had been made in open court.

I kinda meant to go into that line in the author's comments since I liked putting it in. It showed that MM wasn't exactly willing to accept that loss and had no problems taking an unethical means to reversing it. As far as he knows the kids will never do anything along these lines again and can never apply, but that's not enough; he wants a solid win now that he has the means to get it.

So that's why that guy was following MM, in the second to last panel it says "those janitor" shouldn't it be that janitor?

Eheh... got it. ^^ Thanks! Really hope you're enjoying.
