Funny thing, Adam had originally been the one to set this up with placeholder comments, but there was an edit I wanted to make (TV in the last panel if curious) and so I figured might as well properly set up the page so long as I was editing it anyway.

Yeah, this page lays out a lot of the current situation - bunch of amateur heroes have been emboldened by the kids, there's opposition to the kids continuing to do what they're doing and they're largely just being dismissed as kids, majority of the public is against Jake. A lot of this is pretty much central information for this chapter and story arc.

Of course we also get our first real chance of seeing Protocol play off of someone. Probably should give some idea as to what her role within the story is and her dynamic with the kids; we're wanting to have much more in the way of interaction between her and the kids than we did between them and Marvelous Man. Probably not happening within this chapter itself though.

For what it's worth we can't wait to post the next page. It'll be... pretty immediately obvious why we've been holding off on the site's new banner until then.

Heheh.... Yeah, just more establishment on what's been going on in the last month. Suddenly untrained and undisciplined heroes are popping out of the woodwork, leading to stricter penalties in doing so.

There are two aspects to that I wanted to bring up but didn't get a chance to; one, a part of the narrative starting to form among the general public is that the kids were able to beat Marvelous Man less because they were that tough and more with Marvelous Man being less powerful than the populace originally thought. It's easier for most people to think this random collection of kids got super-lucky than think they had such a major victory.

Secondly, Protocol saw the upswing in violent super-hero activity in Sapphire City coming and that's why she moved there. Her presence in the city is now one to maintain order and help secure offenders. She's also likely offering input into the district attorney and mayor on the matter.

Another, easy-to-miss but still sort of important factoid getting dropped is that the kids very easily could've been charged with unlicensed vigilantism after the Marvelous Man attack, but the state simply chose not to prosecute. And because it's obvious, yes, Jake's decision to confess at the scene almost certainly had something to do with it.

So yeah, this is one of the first really good looks at Protocol, and really hoping folks enjoy her. ^^ I tried to really put her forward as a deeply-logical and intelligent person who tries to make reasoned, informed decisions. I liked how a lot of her dialog came out, especially the bit about the super-hero community and how the kids shouldn't be accountable for the new heroes.

The third panel was originally written entirely differently, with it being a news-conference with a new anchor, Protocol, Ivy League, and Alex Rayne (calling via satellite "from Europe.") Protocol, Ivy, and Alex are three veteran super-heroes with great respect within the industry, and wanted to have Ivy absolutely hating the kids and wanting them arrested, Alex throwing full support behind them and wanting them licensed, and Protocol calling for a measured step of dropping charges but keeping them benched.

It's probably for the best it got cut because there were more than a few logical problems with it (main one being Ivy is the kind of person to not appear on a network like this). Plus I'd typed up so much dialog for it that it would've been hard to stuff it all in that panel. I did make sure to mention Alex is trying to lend public support for the kids as much as he can, while others in the hero business think this is stupid and/or insulting.

Speaking of heroes, I have some light ideas for terrible, insulting new heroes to crop up in comic chapters, none of whom have licenses. I wanna say the lady in the first panel is named "Crimson Blade" who is just a vague, sleepy idea that just came about from me pushing the pen around and mushing about ideas. Not even sure what her power is. That said, I love Martin's color job for her.

If you're curious, the mayor of Sapphire City was based off the current mayor of Houston, but immediately got bored drawing him so I threw in elements of King Bradley from Fullmetal Alchemist. Not saying the character's a Nazi, just rather that I love Bradley's design and wanted an excuse to draw it. ^^

Good to know Alex's supporting the kid's as best he can, looking forward to seeing the new banner and whatever going to happen in the next page.
