I live in Louisiana and am setting this page up on the morning of Mardi Gras. The bookstore I work at is on the parade route. Wish me luck, folks. I might not survive.

Heheh... okay, yeah, I mentioned trying to get different reactions out of everyone's folks? Grant's went full stage-parent. Somebody had to guess that was coming.

This is a bit weird to talk about, but Grant's parents have been pretty openly written as being neglectful of their own kid, but the comic's never actually explored that. Now they ARE really involved in Grant's life, and to that effect actually trying to give him exactly what he wants, but it's come out terribly.

That last line... I think Grant genuinely has no idea how to feel about this. In the past the scenario's been that he knows his parents are neglectful but doesn't seem to want to admit it. Here they're involved in his life in what should, on paper, be awesome, but he's smart enough to know it's not the way he wanted it.

I wrote the first half of this script and Martin said Valerie was coming off kinda harsh pushing on the parent subject. Then when I did the second half had her be the main one to realize what this exactly meant and be sympathetic. Think it worked out nicely. ^^

Also, I kinda half-drew the Miami Dolphins' logo on Grant's Dad's shirt, was happy when Martin was able to get exactly what it was and do the full thing. ^^ Reminder they're from Florida.

Also, I didn't expect to see those little extra haircuts on Grant, but came out really cute. ^^ Might have to see those in the future.

Funny, been really looking forward to posting this page but not actually sure how much to say about it off the top of my head.

As Adam mentioned this one did go through a little back and forth, since Valerie did come off kind of bad the way she was pushing on the subject, which was more of a thing as originally scripted. Think this end approach works pretty well, her realizing when to back off and being the first to really understand the situation.

I kind of get the impression with Grant's parents that they feel like giving Grant whatever he wants is enough to count as good parents. Nicely explains why he not only had a phone before but as we'll soon see it's already been replaced, probably explains a lot about how many comics he has... I'd say this reaction's probably coming out of a mix of that same kind of mentality as well as chasing money and glory from what's going on.

Yeah, I could have guessed that Grant’s parents would go whole hog into the hero thing. Though I’m not gonna lie- I thought the Grants with ponytails were his sisters. XD

Heh.... Very funny, that. ^^ But yeah, wasn't terribly shocking to guess....

...Grant needs a hug. Re-initialize group hug everybody!

But yeah, I had a nasty feeling given how the others were reacting. We have anger (Val and Nicky’s), Denial (Andy’s), Depression (Jenny), Bargaining (with her back and forth Lori)...we needed Acceptance and here they are. Accepting in all the most overbearing ways.

Mind you I recognize that probably wasn’t the intention but I saw a parallel, however weak or a stretch, and felt like pointing it out. Somebody had to have the parents who accepted it to represent that facet of such. And Grant is the kid who got them. I sincerely hoped I was wrong and it was more hectic or even relationship straining as maybe dad was for it but mom against? But nope. You have a united front of support!

And where is Leonard Spencer already? He’s the sometimes villain they need right now to try and help dig them out of this!

Heh.... Don't worry, have something planned for Spencer down the line. ^^

As for the rest..... Yeaaaaah, Grant's in a pretty bad way at the moment. Am kinda glad someone realized there had to be one set of parents who were kinda-sorta accepting. I was hoping people were getting the way I was going for a variety of reactions.

Though the idea of a Mom/Dad split actually sounds really realistic and a bit annoyed I never tried that... Ah, well. ^^

I don't know what I expected but this reaction doesn't surprise me, poor Grant he just can't catch a break when it comes to his parents, wonder what's going to happen next.

Oh, god, they're basically Theater/Pagent Parents in the but for a superhero kid.

I tried to do a bit of research for this plot twist, by the way. If you want your night ruined, look up a documentary called Trophy Kids.
