So everyone knows, the next update is Halloween. I know we've had a lot of fillers and we just got the story back on track, but I'm not breaking with tradition; we always love doing the Halloween filler and not stopping now. Heck, we had THREE ideas for costumes that we loved and had to struggle to pick one.
Heh... Yeah, this is a big page, but one that was a lot of fun to do for a long of reasons.
I liked the idea of all the kids helping out random citizens through the crisis; it's always nice in super-hero stories where they do person-by-person first responder stuff in addition to just punching bad guys in the face. Always makes the hero come off as a lot more relateable and human. Now that the kids are public it's much easier to have these sorts of quieter moments. I was also more than a little weird writing the script for this after having a lot of my turn wrecked by hurricanes; cops, power-line workers and do-gooders can still be seen all around my home city trying to help as many people as they can.
There was also a short-list of recurring extras we sorta wanted to see again. Offhand the Cresselia-woman is in the third panel with her husband and son (Darkrai and Umbeon respectively), the panel below has a Mimikyu-based girl and her Dragonite-dad previously seen in the Halloween chapter, and Grant's helping expies of Scar and Rose from FMA in the last panel. I just sorta wanted to see these guys again in the midst of the hero events. New people meant as extras are Dimitri and Sylvain from Three Houses are in panel 3 (Since Edlegard already showed up, guess Claude will pop by later), and Catherine from the same game is fighting with Asuna in the second.
There's not much to say here, just a really adorable page of the kids trying to help bystanders as much as possible. We'll see where they're all being evacuated to after Halloween.
Yeah, we're doing the Halloween filler on Saturday, also doing one on Wright as Rayne on Friday; that'll have Xandy and Lenore as part of it so if you want to see what two two are doing this year be sure to give that a look.
So yeah, this is pretty much just a montage moving things along and showing the kids being helpful in various ways, think some cute stuff going on. Pretty happy with the page but that does sort of make it a difficult one to comment on.
We'll probably be seeing stuff like the brick background in the second panel a lot more often going forward by the way, figured out a way to streamline the process toward the end of coloring this page. Kind of a weird one to look back on because I did this one pretty quickly after my computer went down so it was kind of a weird scrambling rush job, but pretty happy with how it turned out.
