Too tired to comment right now, but will get to it when I wake up tonight. I think the mood of this particular page will give me a lot to say. Anybody else really missing Jake?

Yeah, kind of just a simple introspective page here, everyone just sitting around unwinding a little and taking things in as they head in to fight Martina. Sort of a weird one to comment on given that.

I like that it's Valerie who's being kind of the driving force of the conversation; we don't really see her being this sentimental very often and she tends to be more aloof, so having her really be missing Jake this much I think says a lot about the whole matter. The lack of Jake is kind of in this weird limbo where it's been awhile but it also sort of feels like it's been longer than it has been - Blue vs. Gold wrapped up a little under two years ago and other than the phone stuff earlier in this chapter he's not really turned up since.

Is it too much that the ribbon Lore has on is orange? Kind of a mix of factors went into that color choice, partially due to Protocol, partially due to complimenting all the blue in her outfit. Think she actually pulls it off pretty well.

Yeah, this page was actually not something that I planned to happen. It started with me just thinking about how neat the image of the kids riding in the metro was, with the city outside the windows.... Was just a setting I hadn't actually drawn yet. Wasn't going to have an entire page about it, but then when thinking of what they'd be talking about, and this was the route the conversation took....

Yeah, Jake's absence is pretty clearly felt by the kids, and it was nice getting them all to wax nostalgic about him. I don't think Jake's car was even that good, it was probably beat up and crummy, and really uncomfortable for the kids to all cram together in it, but at the moment it symbolized a happier point where Jake was there to look out for them.

I like that one of the things they specifically miss is falling asleep in the backseat; it's such a specifically cute thing for a kid to do, and even for a grown-up is sort of a bizarre luxury. Valerie's line about missing the music that played on his radio despite never really thinking about it before is actually something I've been thinking about the music they play at my bookstore job since I've been let go due to the Coronavirus. ... I might be getting it back soon, we'll see.

It's weird, Jake originally wasn't part of the group when I came up with it, but was added in part because they needed someone to drive the kids to their battles; now the kids are competent enough with their powers they don't really need Jake for that purpose, but he adds so much to the dynamic and they really benefit from his guidance that it feels weird to not have him around. That was why Jake stuck; the kids needed a grown-up with them so the rest of them could be free to act childish. They still do, but they're weaker for not having him around.

The 6th panel is directly referencing the first time the kids got Jake to drive him to a fight by having Andy, Nicky, and Valerie give him Bambi eyes. Just a neat call back.

I've wanted to mention for a while that Valerie probably isn't super happy that without Jake she has to propel herself around town by shooting rockets from her arm. She doesn't really have a power suited to long-distance travel like the others, that's as close as she can get but you can see why she'd hate it.

Also I like how Andy is just upside down for this entire train ride and nobody even mentions it. ^^
