This is a gag we've been wanting to get to for a looong time. We even already laid some groundwork for it back at the start of the chapter with Martina briefly showing the valley girl streak -
Yeah, just something we've planned with her for a long time at this point and pretty happy with finally getting the chance to get to it. A little thing I like about it is that Franklin seems like he's probably heard a lot of these sorts of complaints today with how exasperated he seems to be at this rant.
Setting this up while kind of tired so sort of scraping for comments, but hope everyone enjoys this one, quite happy with it. Though it might be better with the alternate statue more accurately depicting Quetzalcoatl -
Heheh... Yeah, I remember the idea for Valley-Girl-Martina was something I'd been looking forward to since at least the Fontainebleu chapter. A couple of fans have sent messages saying they want to see Martina as a baby, like an effect of their own hubris, but I think this is actually LESS dignified. ^^
We'll get into the specifics later in the comic, but the idea is that Martina tried shielding herself from the fog's effects and it didn't entirely take. So she wound up a outside the under-14 umbrella but not by much.
For as little detail as it has the indoor garden including a skyline, fog rising into the sky, and wide grassy space is very "this is a boss arena"-ish. Floated around a few possibilities for where this fight could be; was thinking a playground like the one we saw on the cover but the Decay Conductor fight already spilled into a park so it'd feel samey.... Then thought about ON the train platform, elevated over the city, but unless the trains are running normally and you can do stuff with them speeding back and forth it's no fun. I dunno, been trying to think better on fun settings....
I love giving business and public spaces in Sapphire City names from different folklore and myth. I struggled with the indoor garden name for way too long before settling on Quetzalcoatl entirely because I wanted to draw them. The above joke from Martin was inevitable as we're both huge fans of Dragon Maid. ^^
