Yeah, one extra little filler for Christmas, hope folks don't mind. In this case it's not because the new page isn't ready at least. This gives us some breathing room but the page could be up in time if we wanted, just we were gonna handle a Christmas filler anyway. ^^
Martin pitched this idea of Jake holding a Christmas Card from the kids and I immediately ran with it. I loved the idea and I just had a lot of fun coming up with the messages from each of the kids talking about how much Jake meant to them and what their priorities are.
Jenny's main concern seems to be cheering Jake up, Valerie is too cynical to help but is doing it because she cares about Jake, Lore's self-esteem has been under attack since the Marvelous Man fight and she misses how Jake always had total confidence in her, Nicky just wants everything back to normal, Grant is too shy to really commit to much to say despite being depressed, and I think Andy appreciates Jake's ability to be the smartest guy in the room.
My personal favorite is probably Grant's just because of how unexpectedly sad it wound up being; Jake's a really positive authority figure in his life and the school was a better home environment than the one he had with his parents (this is also at least partly why he's so close to Alex Rayne). He also has a strong sense of justice and can't get over how wrong it is that Jake's been locked up for this.
In-universe, Jake is spent Christmas in prison. The was still in session and didn't take a winter break, and the time-skip put us at a little past new years. So this probably actually happened and isn't just what-if filler.
This was a relatively last minute decision; we'd already intended to do a Christmas filler as per usual, but the original idea was to run it on Saturday. We decided last night to go ahead and do it for today instead, both so it'd be up before the holiday and to give us a little bit more breathing room, though the next page is already done at least so there shouldn't be any complications going forward or anything.
Sort of a weird one to comment on, though there is a lot I like about it; did some experimenting with trying to make the text look a bit more handwritten by playing around with the transparency and the texture of the paper, think it works pretty well.
Hope everyone at least has a decent time for the rest of this godawful year and here's to hoping the next is better, eh? Be sure to swing by for more of the story on Saturday.
I'll be so bllluuue, just think about you.
