This page took FOREVER. Between my work schedule and the sheer number of heads it was like four days of work; not a great bit of timing given me getting sick wiping out our backlog. The rest of the pages at this conference aren't going to be this busy, don't worry. Hated doing that first panel.
At the same time, this does a good job setting the scene. Minor touch I really love is that Martin put a gradient on Grant's face so it's really pale. Nicely sells how nervous he is being here. Also the fact that someone in the crowd is asking a question there's a spotlight on them; you can see it in both the first and fourth panels.
I didn't want the press conference to be easy. I hate in stories when there's an obvious point or question that can be asked that simply isn't (Been watching Law and Order a lot lately, they do that a lot), and so if there's a genuinely good counterpoint in the argument I want it brought up. The issue on Jake not blowing the whistle sooner is a legitimate question and I think in order to look good as heroes the kids should have to respond to it.
For that matter, the question on why they were keeping it secret was also a legit point, and I like that the kids were upfront about their reasoning while still keeping the focus on themselves. .... I should probably write the rest of this scene tonight, I'm getting a lot of ideas on how to go forward with it.
Yeah, this one was kind of a chore to do; pretty cluttered with a lot of heads and some easy but tedious background elements, plus I had to dig up the last time we saw everybody's shoes for reference. ... Fortunately I already did this the other day for other reasons when it came to Andy so that saved me some time on it.
I like all the various reactions going on here, especially how nervous Grant is and Val's pouty face in the fifth panel. Think both are really good little touches that really fit the characters a lot.
Not entirely sure how much longer this chapter is going to go on for, but do hope that everyone enjoys. Sort of funny, both this and WaR's most recently colored (WaR's hasn't gone up yet) pages are big steps up in complexity to where I was kind of putting off doing them but got them both done today.
I know it was a typo before, but that quirk amuses me.
