Screw waiting around, RIGHT into the action. The kids are in danger, Jake has to show up to stop what's happening. Love the set-up of him immediately seeing The Night Terror and what it's doing, then the next panel we can see he's just thrown the spear. Great just-offscreen-awesomeness. ^^
Kinda just got off work so struggling to think of what exactly to say; wanted to get very Body Horror-ish with the Night Terror, an emphasize that it doesn't really have one particular shape when it really gets going. It easily counters Protocol by opening up a hand-mouth to stroke at her.
Big change in the art though.... Well, sorta. We're changing how we did mouths; instead of oval-shaped they're more varied and lean more toward being squares. It makes a lot of the characters look more expressive with their faces. Especially love the effect in panels 2 and 3 here, where they're most apparent.
The Night Terror is singing "Chevaliers de la Table Ronde," a really catchy French drinking song. On the off-chance anyone in the reading base speaks French I even uh... tweaked the lyrics slightly to accommodate the fact that the Night Terror is hoping to gorge itself on something that isn't wine.
Yeah, we're straight into the thick of it, Jake's here and ready to fight. We have a lot of ground to cover so no sense dragging our feet on getting into the fray, especially since it's not like Jake would.
Vespi's bit about the beard is a bit of a meta joke; Adam asked if Jake should cut the beard off before leaving since readers have largely been negative on it, but I pointed out that'd come off like a major case of skewed priorities. Bit of a time crunch going on here and all.
I'd been wanting to experiment with diversifying the mouth shapes for awhile now so pretty glad to get that going on here; Adam actually did both it and the more standard mouth styles on the same page and these are the ones we decided to use for the final product. You can also more clearly see the more detailed eyes here, especially on Lore and Protocol.
Funny, not sure how much to say on this one beyond that myself, even though I'm actually the one who shaded it. It'd kind of been lost in the shuffle to some extent so I ended up deciding to get a foot in the door on it then just did the whole thing. Weird how that works out I suppose.
I do speak some French, and his appetite and thirst is not something that would be acceptable in polite society. It sounds more like something from Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Modest_Proposal ) I was probably more shocked when I first heard Lady Marmalade on the radio, another tune that doesn't sound so bad if you don't know French.
