Well, this page has a lot to unpack.

The part I was probably the most unsure about was the Night Terror peering between the panels. I liked the idea on paper - Adam was kind of iffy on it when he came up with it but we'd done something similar in a commission before so I said go for it - but seeing the finished version there was a lot to unpack regarding how exactly to go about coloring it and doing all the effects with it. Ended up needing to move around the layers a lot and copy multiple ones to make it work but very happy with how it turned out. Sort of one of those, "It looked bad right up until it was done," things.

The next page is the one that was originally going to be page 9 of the chapter, with the focus returned to Jake; when Adam initially wrote the script for it I pointed out we needed to see more of the nightmares first to properly let things sink in so that's where this page and the one before it came from. We're not done with the nightmares by any means but for now we're shifting the focus back to Jake.

Not that there isn't plenty to think about as we cut away though. It's funny, sort of feel like I should avoid actually mentioning anything on specifics just due to how much ground is actually covered within this page; can only imagine there'll be a lot of discussion coming out of it on the Discord. Maybe hop over to join in if you're not already part of it?

Heheh.... Yeah, a LOT of stuff is going on with this page. ^^

Should start with the Night Terror face; like Martin said, we'd done something similar to this in a commission once, which gave the me idea to try it again here, but was really tricky to impliment. Even in the lineart stage it took like three versions to get it just right instead of being really goofy-looking. Was about to just scrap the idea entirely when I hit on this look, which works beautifully. ^^ Helps that Martin suggested a way to draw his eyes that would look creepy... One element of him I wanted to emphasize that got lost behind the panels is he has more than one row of teeth, like a shark.

But the image on just what each kid's fears are becomes more clear with this one. Grant and Andy's are probably my favorites idea-wise, but I just dig the visual on Jenny's. There's.... a few different ways to interpret that being show she sees her Mom.

Be remiss if I didn't notice that tombstone, by the way. That was Martin's idea. ^^

But yeah, like Martin said, the next page'll be cutting back to Jake. I can't wait to see him, it's a page I've wanted to do since we came up with this Nightmare-Prison concept. ^^

It also appears, and this might just be me, but in Merchandised!Grant's colors... its feels like a callback to Marvelous Man. I looked back, and he doesn't have a gold/black costume. But I feel like there's significance.

Heh. Actually, Martin designed that a while back as a possible new suit for Grant, but didn't like the final result and recycled it for this. The idea is that throwing in a color that contrasts more with the blue to mimic Superman's Red/Blue color scheme and having it be orange to mimic Starchild.

The similarity to MM is sort of a happy coincidence. ^^ I think Martin decided to re-use it for the dream sequence because it's just sort of evil-looking. Said the reason he decided to pass on it was that it looked like Deathstroke.
