Heheh... Yeah, like we said, it feels good to get back on track with the Nightmares. They're a lot more fun to write than the fight with Night Terror. Immediately we get some weird insight into not only what each character's nightmares are, but see them respond to each other's.

Lore's insecutities tend to get provoked pretty hard by Protocol, to the point that she can't even see why Protocol's nightmare is what it is (helps that Lore doesn't know her backstory). To Lore, someone as well-regarded as a hero like Protocol would have a nightmare like hers, where she's being put-down and condescended to. It takes a second to recognize that Protocol's greatest fear is less loss of status and more a lack of her sense of self.

Given how much attention Lore's resentment of Protocl has gotten, and how much she's been trying to overcome it, it feels pretty important that she see Protocol has deep-seated fears and issues of her own, and in a way they're actually less petty. I think for Lore this is both a pretty humbling moment, but also one that makes her realize that the people she's envious of aren't as built up as she thinks they are.

Meanwhile, Jenny's nightmare continues. She's been pulled away from her friends and her dad and is now living with her Mom which.... Yeah. We see the issue with the Mom shortly, like why specifically she's like this, but I like how many ways you can read into this interaction.

If you're wondering where Nicky got sent to on his own... We'll find out Saturday. ^^

This one's a little weird to comment on seeing as how it's effectively two half pages pushed together, though am pretty happy with how it turned out. In particular I like Lore's kind of dawning moment of realization about just what is going on here.

What sort of makes this particularly strange I think is that we more or less crammed an entire page into the first half; the Lore and Protocol stuff with more or less the same script probably could've been an entire page if it was more fleshed out, but kind of just in the name of pacing we ended up doing it here instead. Think it works better this way, kind of keeps the story from getting too bogged down in Lore's insecurities when we've already seen a lot of that anyway.

As for the other side of the coin here...

Last time we "saw" Jenny's mom she was just bald and featureless, but I wanted to play a little further into surreal horror here, thus the scribbled proto face faintly visible here. Also partially did that because there was some confusion on her potentially relating to the stuff with Mother O'Hara in Wright as Rayne given her followers were bald; the idea's supposed to be that Jenny doesn't really have a concept of her mom so she's just kind of this weird featureless thing to her, and think that's better conveyed here.
