Okay, we're hoping to get back to the normal schedule next week, so swing by on Wednesday with a hope, eh? ^^
But yeah, this was actually probably the hardest page in the chapter thus far to write. I kinda wanted to establish a few things about the kids' living situation and remark on the hair changes... But also really, REALLY wanted them to just go meet up with Jake so we can focus on the baby thing. So sorta just had the kids hurry along to want to go see him.
But we do see that Valerie's on good-ish speaking terms with her parents again, which is a pretty big change for her. It worked as a good explanation for how Nicky got his hair fixed, and even tweaked the script at the last minute to include the pin that Martin put on Val in the last page coming from her. What I like is that Valerie's clearly not used to feeling not-hate for her folks to the point that she's not comfortable talking about it.... and has "Man-Eater" as the ringtone that plays when her Mom calls.
We kinda fell out of having Jenny zipping around for a while so it was fun getting her to do it again, really paints things as being more back-to-normal-ish. ^^ Speaking of, we acknowledged her hair changing too.
This page was kind of particularly satisfying to do just for the circumstances of it. Had serious doubts last night when it was drawn that I was going to be able to get it colored myself (thus leaving it to Adam) because my gout was acting up very badly and I was kind of just in agony, but today it's feeling a lot better. Woke up pretty much immediately wanting to get into it and did that as the first order of business. Still not feeling 100% but I'm doing much better now than I was this time yesterday.
But yeah, this one was kind of a fun one to do outside of that. Lot of cute back and forth with the kids; like having Andy refuse to take a side on the hair issue just to troll and getting to see a bit with Val and her parents seemingly being on better terms in particular. Even if she does lie to them about being unpacked.
Admittedly I think I could work on getting tile down better from an angle like that. Think it actually looks fairly awkward in the third, even if it is mostly covered up. Live and learn I suppose. Speaking of things getting better as they go think it probably shows I did the detail on Andy's shirt in the fifth panel after I did it in the first two; not too hard to do with a feel for it but at first it was coming out a little awkward. Actually a pretty late change, had already started to color it the old way when I decided it could look better.
