I'm actually kinda sick at the moment; in general suffering from a pretty extreme fatigue, so this page was written specifically to be easy to draw. Even as such I kept having to take long breaks just to lie in bed. On the upswing, but still embarrassing.

But yeah, Jake just getting everything out; he's weighed in on his bizarre life way back in the Fontainebleu chapter, and summed up that despite everything he does ultimately appreciate the experiences it gives him. But in this context it can be an unstable environment for a kid. Even with the Blues kids I think he might be afraid he's locking them into a life they'll hate and is trying to make sure they'll have a possible out.

What I like is that there's no really easy answer for what Jake's feeling. These fears aren't going to go away, he just has to accept the assurances the kids give him and move on; it works because he's the kind of hero who understands that sometimes all you can take is "good enough."

Also, yeah, I love the fact that even in prison Jake's life was just bizarre. At one point was considering having bonus pages every chapter of the last arc detailing Jake still managing to experience weird events while in jail, but that got dropped in favor of writing him out entirely. But his cell-mate isn't a human, but some visiting alien from another realm that got arrested after committing what they didn't know was a crime. We even made sure to set this up by having his room-mate have unusual eyes to imply something was up with them. I wasn't sure how to bring it up, but love that Jake ultimately reveals it as casually as possible.

Yeah, like Adam said, this one was kind of envisioned to be sort of light and easy to do, but still had a lot of fun with it and it feels like a pretty vital page for getting a bit more insight into how Jake's feeling not just about the current situation but about his life in general. We've never really seen him open up like this and it feels like a very appropriate time for it to happen.

One thing that bares noting is that, much like Monday's Wright as Rayne page, I redid the palette for this page to skew a bit more vibrant... and yet much like with that one most of the page is in the dark where it's probably not immediately obvious. Weird how that shakes out. Still, do think that that kind of thing helps a lot both with providing more variety when making color selections and just making everything stand out more and feel more likely. Think Andy in particular really benefits from it, feels very appropriately him.

Not a gigantic amount to say beyond that. We're coming up on the next anniversary picture a few weeks from now, and on the 30th chapters of both comics, so are some interesting times ahead for sure.
