First off - next update will be the anniversary picture, for real this time. Hope everyone's going to enjoy the hints at what's to come for the next year, got a lot of things planned for chapter 30 and beyond.

Having to rush my comments a little bit, only just getting this up before the page goes up due to going pretty to the wire on giving it updated shading. Been wanting to move to doing more in-depth manual shading like this instead of the blanket tone we generally use, allow for more colorful pages in general, but it was kind of last minute coming together on this specific page. Case in point got a couple of little things I need to fix after this one's set up.

But yeah, Protocol's here for some reason! We've been wanting to bring her into the chapter for a bit and kind of just looking for the place to do it; what she's doing here will be explained in the next page but do think having her just happen to pop up when they're talking about her makes for a funny little bit.

Probably not a huge amount of the chapter left, but still a few things we want to get around to first. Hope everyone's enjoyed the ride thus far and what's still to come.

Yeah! New shading! Very nice, eh, folks? ^^

Heheh... Yeah, reason Protocol is just chilling in the school will become clear later, though she's not a teacher. It'll be explained.

I was gonna have more of Jake running errands, buuuuut kinda felt redundant and there was no reason to just come back to the school. You can really tell because we actually saw Roxanne when Jake got out of prison, and was planning for her to have a bigger role in this chapter as Jake thought about becoming a parent. After having such a sincere heart-to-heart with the kids, having him open up like this to someone the audience doesn't really know would just feel weird.

With all the talk about Jake being a dad though, I did wanna put a bit of emphasis on the fact that he grew up in foster care. It's always been a planned part of the guy's backstory but it's only ever come up once, when Marvelous Man mentioned looking into his background. Coming from that environment helps inform a lot of why Jake feels unprepared to be a dad, especially since his description of Roxanne as his "last foster mother" implies he went through a LOT of homes as a kid.

But yeah, I'm bringing back the recurring thing that Jake reads to the kids outside of Grant and Val (and even then, kinda-sorta Grant) so was glad to bring that up here.

There was a discussion between me and Martin if we were going to do the costume switch this early or wait for a future chapter, honestly I just didn't want to put it off that long? ^^
