Yeah, curious what exactly caused things to escalate this much. Probably a poorly-phrased come-on from Rick, but I get the feeling Wilma might've just lost her patience and sprayed our mystery sand-woman with a beer bottle.
A little touch that we came up with in drawing the artwork; OZ's growing friendship with Lillie actually making her act nice enough to offer to carry the coffin containing Khelsea (God, say that five times fast) on her own. Them co-carrying it with Lillie struggling was in the script, but in drawing it it just felt so natural for OZ to say something. Just a sweet little moment. Another little touch that was even more last-minute, this one from Martin; among the debris being blown away by that tornado is the pail that Wilma used to build her sandcastle in the last page.
One thing we meant to mention about the artwork is that we've tweaked how we draw ________, making her look flatter and less-detailed. More like a background character. ^^
This one was kind of an interesting experiment; really wanted to nail the atmosphere of it which wound up doing a lot of extra layer stuff to add a lot of extra details like the dust in the air and the overhauls on how we do twisters and the like. It got to the point that I actually saved an alternate stripped down file just in case this one caused Manga Studio to chug too much to shade it, though it didn't wind up being necessary thankfully.
So yeah, kind of largely just a page establishing this new threat here; we'll see more of her sooner rather than later but we'll be turning our focus to the kids come the next page. While Rick's crew will be pretty present throughout this one it's not supposed to be all their chapter by any means, I wanted to give a lot of shine to a lot of the cast. Really hoping everyone enjoys what all's to come since this chapter is pretty stuffed all in all, lot of stuff planned and already written that we're feeling very happy with.
Little touch I kind of particularly like, seemingly unprompted Rick carrying Wilma and yelling for the others to run while Oz and Lillie attend to Khelsea. Think it goes to show that these weirdos, as dysfunctional as they are, really do keep an eye out for each other.
I really can't see any of the heroes being able to score a victory against her on her home turf, or even off it given what happened with the BP girls, oh boy she is nothing but bad news.
