Heheheh... Aaaaand now the group has been split up into thirds! ... Easier-to-handle, less stressful to draw, much more manageable thirds.
This was a major crux of the chapter; Martin spent a LOT of time planning who goes into what groups and what personalities/powers would compliment/contrast that of the others in it. I was genuinely impressed by how much prep that took and how many different factors had to be considered. ^^ Kind of thing I just never really try for comics myself.
This page had a few questions and looks to do, but had a really solid script that just fit naturally for it. In particular I love the touch of Jake picking up Nicky and urging him to stop... While Lillie grabs a hold in a way that only insures she'll fall in with them. That and the shot of Lore in the first/second panels being used to show that the pit is sinking were just fun details. Ooo, and Jake's expression as they fall into the pit. That wasn't planned, just something that got thrown out as it was being done.
Naturally this was kind of always the endpoint of all this - we've got these three mismatched groups divided up and spread out, now what? In case everyone's wanting a quick and easy sum-up of who all's together right now...
Group 1 - Grant, Valerie, Mantioda, the ghost, Telegirl, Marina
Group 2 - Jake, Lore, Nicky, Lillie, Wilma, Protocol, Rex
Group 3 - Jenny, Andy, Qrime Qure, Gibraltar, Oz, Khelsea, Rick
I put a looooot of thought into who went into what group, it was something that kind of got workshopped again and again until it felt like everyone was positioned where they and the needs of the story most fit. There were some missed opportunities that arose from that but on the whole think this is kind of where the real fun of the chapter kicks in and hope everyone enjoys what's to come from all this chaos.
Hey, remember the joke Adam made in the comments when Marvelous Man initially wrecked the Blues kids? Callback!
