Heheh... Yeah, this page came about a bit strangely but extremely pleased with the final results. ^^
Originally the page was gonna be a bit busier and more complex, with things spread over more panels, but... we've been trying to tweak our style a bit and be more attentive to how things look and setting mood. Martin had the idea to trim down a lot of the panels and just let things sit more.
Absolutely love the results; wound up with a slow zoom-out of Grant that lets things feel very heavy and gives a good sense of how anxious he is. Don't you just wanna give him a hug? ^_^
The result of keeping the focus entirely on Grant meant that Colt himself wound up with his back to the camera, though.... It makes it seem like he was meant to be mysterious, but he wasn't. Funny thing is we actually saw him before way back in "Based On A Blue Story." I've been meaning to bring him back; kept trying to think of a way to make him in the last story arc with Jake in jail but it never quiiiite worked out. But now with the story arc that we're starting up he's good to pop in. We'll get a better look at Colt in the next page.
I like that poor befuddled secretary; she wound up being a bit of a throw-in. Oh, and I love Colt Inc's logo on the wall behind her. Loved how that logo looked and wanted to bring it back.
Oh, related subject; part of the better emphasis on style has us fluffing the dialog balloons so there's a bit more white space. Idea is to make them easier to read. Thoughts?
There was a bit of soft-redesigning that went on here with Grant's mom; Adam tweaked her haircut a little to try and make her and Grant look a bit more similar to each other. I think it came out a bit subtle but is still a nice touch, though your mileage may vary on that one.
Like Adam said, initially this was just the first half of the page; ultimately we decided it'd work better splitting it in half and reworking some of the dialogue. Admittedly think maybe it came out a little bit suffocating just how much of it there is in this page, but it does kinda work for how overwhelmed Grant's supposed to be here.
Funny note, that secretary's color scheme basically was just recycled from an assortment of Militant Gold characters. I do that kind of thing not super rarely with extras but feel like it worked better than usual in this case.
Heh... Glad you liked; bit of a random thing to try and suddenly improve. I'm a bit OCD about word balloons so it's a little hard to wrap my head around it.
Check your private messages, by the way. ^_^
Thanks! I'll respond there.
