Really coincidental timing on this page; this script's actually been written for a good while now, since back when the first page with these two was done, but Adam wanted to do some other stuff first before actually coming around to it. So this time around it felt right... and it just so happens to coincide with a page of Wright as Rayne having its own lock-and-key-related reveals going on at the same time. Nice how that works out.
Though for anyone who doesn't read WaR, the specifics of the locks and keys aren't really going to be gone into right this moment. We'll hear about them in Blues, don't worry, but for the time being it's kind of not especially relevant. Though you might remember the subject also came up in the previous chapter, when Protocol talked to Alex about it. We've also already previously seen Jake's along with a cryptic note about it.
We've actually also already established this tendency of magical artifacts to find their way to people in this universe, though that one was in Wright as Rayne.
So yeah, pretty fun going into this one, even if a lot of it's just teasing at stuff. The Wildlands have come up here and there previously, with Jake notably going into the subject in these pages -
Yeaaaah, this lined up WEIRD. Genuinely didn't plan it but nice how it works out. ^^ Hell, the WaR page bringing up the fact that the locks have keys and that's the first thing Jenny asks about.
Kinda good Martin handled the set-up for this page; I'd actually completely forgotten that we've already brought up The Wildlands. Not sure how long it'll be before that comes up....
Either way, I really love the explanation that magical items can't just be intentionally lost; that being an unspoken rule explains a LOT of stories where they don't just do that exact thing. Loved the idea so much I had to have a page highlighting it.
Gaaaah, so much dialog on this page. Actually wanted them to be listening to a Bob Dylan song in the background, specifically "Not Dark Yet," but there was no room to fit that in.
The fifth panel was originally gonna have a shot of Gaspeed and Ellen from Wright As Rayne in the background moving some kind of package into a high-security vault in 8th Sin HQ, but with how much dialog there was it would've been hard to actually get a good look at them. Also I was dead tired when I drew this and I'd have to dig up the references, tweak their art because it's been just long enough since we've last seen them, ect, and it was a lot for just a tiny cameo.
I love the touch that Jenny realizes she's just making a wild assumption that Jake has at some point been to space, only for her to be 100% right. ^^

Kind of just a lot of teasing at future plans but do hope everyone enjoys it regardless.
Also because I couldn't help it with the last panel...
