Jeez, when was the last time we did a double-length page? The Marvelous Man fight? Well, 1000 pages is a good occasion for it.
This wound up being a celebration in a lot of little ways; natural spot to just hype up how much the Blues kids have accomplished and how far the comic has come, especially after hyping it up in the filler pages with the art evolution. There are times where I feel like I haven't gotten any better and this does a lot to help assuage that.
I originally wrote this and felt it was kinda lackluster, and tellingly it was missing the massive All-Villains panel in the second half. Feeling crummy I tossed it to Martin and he touched it up... So it wound up even being special just for how the two of us worked together to write the script and talk up the comic.
Looking at all the villains again was a trip; had to work to track down the last time we'd seen a bunch of them and touch up the designs but was totally worth all the effort we put into it. Just an amazing shot. Favorite part is probably how Martina wound up taking center stage, which led to the sky being split into that day/night thing, which was put over my Marvelous Man and Night Terror being on opposite sides and just yeah. So satisfied by this. That panel just pulls everything together.
We actually wound up forgetting Susan in that panel until the very last minute, meaning we had to drop everything to put her in. We really wanted to include everyone except what-his-name.
Anybody have a favorite/least favorite villain for the comic, by the way? Not sure on the latter but thiiiink my favorite might be Spencer....
Really glad everybody's been having fun, this was a big one for us. ^_^
Yeah, this one was kind of grew out of a lot more basic of a script. Adam wrote one that pretty much followed this same general blueprint, but we both thought it was kind of underwhelming so I went back and gave it another take. It's mostly in the second half of the page where my additions come in, but there was some reworking along the way, and there were things I wrote he changed up. It's very appropriate that for the occasion it wound up being a collaborative project I guess.
So yeah, naturally wanted to kind of hit a lot of checkmarks with this one in one go - give the group some proper focus with everyone kind of weighing in on their thing, celebrate the history of the comic, move the story forward... It was a lot to do in the middle of a chapter without much action actually going on but I think it played out very nicely, had a lot of fun getting to do all of these villains again and including touches like Martina's old look.
Might also notice some art style revisions with this page. In the process of compiling the progressing art of everyone we thought there were things the art had regressed on compared to a couple of chapters ago so we made a bit of a conscious attempt to try to adjust those here, like making Jake's hair less wild and a bit less vibrant.
Do want to thank everyone for reading over the years and hopefully you'll enjoy what all's still to come. The rest of this chapter and the next one are both things we have really special ideas for we're hoping everyone's going to really dig.
I loved the cult leader lady, and not a fan of the dog mask guy. I do like the adult who got powers as it was fun to see his face when the kids beat him!
I know what's missing. Weird Dark Delusion man. But he wasn't really a villain. Just kind of existed. And the last time we saw him he was like 5, due to the curse. XD
