No, tryouts are not a thing we actually plan to do in the comic at some point. We might maybe flirt a little with the idea of exploring other students in the school being interested in the team in some capacity at some point, maybe, but for the most part that's a topic we're really not terribly interested in exploring. Even if we were to add someone else to the team, which we have no desire to do, it'd probably just be Lenore since her powers make for a useful support utility and she's already a prominent part of the cast.
Sorry, just kind of figured should preface with that since it's the kind of thing I could see people latching onto otherwise. Appropriately enough for the topic I guess the kids featured here are two extras we haven't seen in a long time and a new one; I guess Acacia and Rosalba aren't the only new arrivals since the school reopened. Adam said he based the design on Ralsei but I folded some Isabelle from Animal Crossing into it kind of just to try to make it more unique, generally what I try to do when Adam bases a character off of someone from some other work.
Either way, on the whole pretty happy with this page. Think we get some good banter from it and it moves things along pretty quickly to the next big plot point. This chapter has been kind of slow to get to the main focus of it admittedly but we are hoping everyone's going to really enjoy when it hits that next gear soon.
Yeah, the try-outs thing was just a joke Andy was making that felt in-character, really have no interest in the subject.
But really just very happy with this page. Think the art improvements from last page are already making a huge difference, especially on Grant and Valerie, and is just a funny, breezy page. Remember being really iffy about the script until I sat down and saw it drawn, now I just love it. Feels very much like a return to form. This is what the comic is and what it's like.
As much as we're getting a return to basics we see the big difference that everybody knows they're heroes now, which is just an odd thing to have to live with. Grant covering his eyes especially just wound up so cute. The POV shot of all the kids looking down on the phone too. Just very happy with this one.
Did genuinely consider having Grant's parents actually live in Ramesses Heights (Very proud of that name, BTW), but if that were true we'd have to have them show up for the climax. Bit soon since we JUST had his Mom in a bunch of pages.
