I really loved getting to do Martina again. Good thing about characters who've been absent for long periods of time is that when they come back you get to see how they look in the improved artwork and she just came out great. Like Sareena in BP, I threw on some eyelashes and also the improved expression work really hammered in the coy, serene maiden look about her. I really do enjoy drawing her just for the expressions and body language.
I think originally I was going to have the plot be that the other religious leaders outright asked her not to attend based on her criminal allegations mentioned here. Then I realized that might make them look a bit intolerant and judgemental, which goes against the idea of an inter-faith event like this. So I shifted things around so she's merely angry about not being invited and is herself the one that refuses to acknowledge them. Works out much better; love the passive-aggressiveness of demanding and then immediately rejecting an apology.
Martina doesn't have much focus in this chapter, but kinda starting to figure out that works for her. In the her last appearance it was because she was taking a backseat to the kids officially making a team. But now she's sorta set-up so we find out more about her (Her backstory, her church, her overall plans) very slowly. It makes sense, being that as a character she seems very coy, and I look forward to gradually revealing more about her.
Actually gonna start scripting the climax tonight, and submitting this has sorta pumped me up for it. Neat. ^^ I uh... Do apologize for patting myself on the back so much in the comments. Hope you folks enjoy.
Not sure how much I have to say on this one really, but I am happy with it. Though I keep noticing little bits of lines we didn't get in fixing them (part of the way we color the pages, the lines wind up weird and faded if we don't go back over them at the end) that kind of drive me nuts. Not sure if anyone else even picks up on those but they stand out to me. I've sort of been paying it more mind lately.
I like how no one really questions Franklin, just kind of takes it for granted that there's this big guy in a freaky mask standing here acting as her muscle while not saying a word. Maybe they figure it's a religious thing, or they just figure the mask might be for intimidation and aren't taking the bait.
But yeah, we'll be cutting to the next morning in the next page and Martina won't really be showing up again for awhile after that. Hopefully everyone enjoys what all is coming though, it's been a very fun chapter so far. If a very busy, time-consuming one.
Also, on further reflection, man it must have been uncomfortable for Franklin walking around with that thing in his coat.
Heh.... Y'know, if the water-melting weakness is common for witches in this universe, we'll have some bumps in the road for one of our other comics. ^^
