Yeah, like I said, thought the thing about Nicky hating the cold would be a bigger deal but doesn't come up too much after this. Had this idea in my head since the chapter first came up and figured this would be cute and funny to see between these two.
Don't usually get this funny in the comic; especially like Jake's brief bit of disbelief over Nicky watching the news. The more obvious joke I liked too; had a few different punchlines lined up for what the computer came back with and had to ask Martin which one he thought was funniest. Other options were "The world was ending" and "No, seriously, where are the real numbers?"
Originally the Boreas namedrop was going to be a Nordic God associated with snow, but changed it since further looking into it that particular God wasn't the God OF snow, just related to it. I dunno, Norse Mythology is fairly complicated from my brief glance into it and not as familiar with it as I am with Greek.
I guess that map gives us a vague, vague idea of where Stonewall in terms of the Texas/Louisiana border. Really, it's just "somewhere in Eastern Texas." That's it.
Jeez, don't mean to build up what's coming so much, just had a lot of other scenes I wanted to get to first. Starts next time, sorry.
For what it's worth, I voted mainly for the, "What are the real numbers?" one, though I was kind of indecisive on it. Plus this one's a bit more absurd.
Anyway, I have no idea what I have to say on this one. Kind of annoyed by here for a number of reasons mostly involving no one around me every giving me a single second of quiet no matter the hour of the day. But I'm not going to use these comments to vent about that.
Instead, yeah. Turns out Nicky's the one who had to throw something together for the cold. At least now he is prepared for it though, just in time to be a part of the sequence that's coming up. Hoping everyone enjoys that, sort of the centerpiece of the chapter.
Gonna kill the joke by explaining it buuuuut.... basically, it would've meant they put the data into the computer and it said, "No, seriously, what's really happening?" Variation on that old weight joke "You're so fat when you step on a scale it says "One at a time, please.""
