.... Okay, has NOTHING to do with this comic but screw it. David Bowie was a musical treasure!
It's really sad how this new group of people have really elaborate plans and backstories to them but revealing those things is so far away from my list of priorities it's not even funny. They're not exactly the main focus of this chapter.
Was quite a bit on this page related to coloring, should let Martin get into that. ^^ The particular idea on the flashback being black-and-white I can say was his. It was unexpected and wound up influencing how we do all the other flashbacks because.... Yeah, there's a lot of those in this chapter. The "dad" in that flashback was also kinda-sorta supposed to be Connery, but I was only half-trying.
That particular idea on dropping enemies in a prison yard... Yeah, that only works if you're Christopher Reeve.
I was hung up on coloring this page for awhile for a multitude of reasons. Had to come up with color schemes basically on the fly for this new group here - Adam designed them without really consulting with me first, so didn't really know what exactly he was going for in each's appearance - and that took awhile to work up the urge to do then to figure out, then there were a bunch of extras to worry about, and the flashback where I wasn't sure exactly how to approach it.
Rather happy with the end result on this one, though. Even if that one guy in this group is rather at odds with the rest of them in his color scheme, given the rest of them all have cold, more subdued colors while he's a bit more vibrant.
The flashback thing basically just amounted to trying to figure out how in this instance I wanted to approach it, given the flashback, for reasons we'll get into as the chapter goes, is rather different from when the comics have done that in the past. For that reason didn't really want to do, say, the sepia thing we've done a few times previously or anything like that.
Initially went for kind of a washed-out, faded look, but it didn't look right. It just wound up looking like I'd screwed up the coloring. Prefer the avenue I went down with it anyway.
Well it looks like its a good thing the kids didn't get involved in this mess for right now, how bizarre just how much weirder is this chapter going to get.
Nice setup.
