Heh... Yeah, this chapter's erm... Different. Seems I say that a lot but yeah.... Honestly, it bears a lot in common with Blue Bloodlines; we get another look at the kids parents. Also like that chapter this particular chapter is mostly letting characters breathe and seeing what makes them tick. Since character can take longer to convey than story events, this is also gonna be a longer chapter than normal. ^^
Jake is going to be a big part of this one, as you can clearly tell. Marvelous Man is too; chapter gives us a nice, long look at him. Doesn't get the spotlight for once, though, he's relegated to that little "preview" box.
You guys ever notice Jake never smiles? Not to say he's never happy, think he is quite often, he just doesn't smile to convey it. He's only smiled ONCE in the comic; when Senator Howlend agreed to give him a job. When he's happy he gets that kinda weary look on his face he has in all of these.
I kinda like that touch since, if you don't know Jake's character, these pictures would be really sad. Hell, when I did the line-art, Martin told me to make it so Jake was frowning EVEN MORE in one of the pictures. He was already frowning but he still looked "too happy."
Idea with the rainbow-wig picture is Jake's kinda keeping them out of sight and covering for them. Not sure how well that came out. ^^
The title "Tangled Up In Blue" comes from a Bob Dylan song. I'llll get into how that relates to things as we go in.
Not sure how much I've got to say on this one offhand but yeah, this chapter is quite certainly different. Very Jake-focused as the cover indicates, though kind of up in the air at the moment just how heavily so it will be. Still largely about him, though.
Yeah, sort of blanking on much to say beyond that. Does bare noting this cover idea kind of started off showing the kids with their parents again with Jake being pulled past them by this mystery person touching his arm here (who was also going to be just offscreen in that), then turned into this. Either way communicates the same basic idea and works as a callback to Blue Bloodlines either way, which this chapter's very similar to as Adam said.
Anyone have any guesses just who this is just offscreen and what their role might be?
