I'm gonna leave before much longer to get my tooth removed; by the time this page goes up I'll be lying facedown in a rapidly-growing pool of my own bloody drool.
Heh... So yeah, we're going forward on a Halloween story. Was unsure on it, but think it should be fun. The pages we've already done for the chapter came out really great, do hope you folks'll enjoy, even though it's a Halloween story that'll go waaaay past the holiday. Eh, trouble with webcomics. ^^
I really liked this cover; nicely blends both the Marvleous Man half of the plot and the half with the kids. It's also both kinda silly and fun while also being surreal and kinda creepy.
This was a good chance to cheat and give the kids an extra Trick-or-Treat filler page where they're all in group costumes. It would've been cheating otherwise, but they're in costumes as Wright As Rayne characters. Thing is that if we ever tried that in an actual Halloween filler, it'd feel self-congratulatory. Less so if it's not a special occasion. Valerie is Misty, Andy is Ana, Lore is Sareena, Jenny is Stargirl, Nicky is Mr. Atlanta (There... there was no one left in the main group), and Grant is Alex.
This is the second chapter in a row where the title wasn't immediately apparent on meaning.... But trust me, "Who Blue Truly Are" becomes more transparent a theme as we go on. ^^
One other aspect of this is something of a callback to the current WaR chapter's cover, given that's also a Halloween one and has some cosplay as various Blues characters going on, though some WaR ones too. Kind of funny enough not much in the way of leads there, only one is Grant.
Yeah, there was a lot of back and forth on the subject of what exactly to dress Nicky as. We kicked around stuff like putting him in Laura's green and white shirt, dressing him as John, I think McShay might've come up, but Atlanta seemed the most right. Which is kind of funny given the Blues group prooobably wouldn't be on board with what the Patriot Initiative's driving force is if aware of it.
Andy actually pulls off the Midnight Maiden costume really well, doesn't he? Kind of funny since on a level it sort of feels like he and Valerie should be swapped, but think the logic there was Misty's costume has more of a sci-fi bent than Ana's does and Valerie has a lot of that going on with her character.
Also I think this is about the most direct in-comic reference there's been to Lore being Jewish.
Oh, and kind of amusing to get back to sticking Heather in the cover box. When these first started she was in that more often than not but not been in one in awhile, and of the pages we've done so far this seemed like the most appropriate shot to put in there.
Yeaaah, this has been planned for a while, but nobody's commented on it, so we've just slowly been making the hints more and more obvious. Admittedly some of the nods to it were kinda too subtle.
Your comment suggests you've been noticing something I was afraid the entire readerbase had been missing.
