And we wound up going with Lost Oasis! Lots of good suggestions, but that was just what it came down to. Was a last-minute thing, thanks a lot for everyone who submitted. A friend had suggested Lost Sierra and a reader threw out Empty Oasis, and Martin just suggested this amalgamation.
I should mention I've got a habit of not being happy with the names I give things in post, which is kinda why I angsted over this name until the last minute. I'm actually not happy at all that the city this comic takes place in is called "Stonewall City" and have greatly wanted an excuse to re-name it "Sapphire City".
Gah. Whatever, you can see that the prison is much better-drawn now than it was previously. Tweaked the design to make it look more like an actual building.
But... Yeah, when we said Dr. Mariposa, the other gene expert worked in the private sector, this is it. After the Blues school where ELSE would you find the largest collection of super-powered individuals all in the same place?
Yes, a lot of this chapter WILL be world-building. How the larger systems of the comic's universe work is something I've wanted to go into for a while. Marvelous Man's side of things will briefly be taking a look at what happens to super-villains after they've been captured.
Want to say in particular that when I started doing the scripts here, I didn't have anything in mind for Professor Blake. He was only invented to provide exposition about the prison and eventually introduce Dr. Mariposa. Wound up actually liking the character quite a bit, which led to us giving him an eye-catching design and amicable personality. Like with how General Zodiac was designed to avert the trigger-happy General Ripper trope, Blake wound up being used to move away from the sinister, Hugo-Strange-style evil warden.
Yeah, Blake kind of just grew out from us working on him. Really just started at, "Well, we need a person for Marvelous Man to talk to," and wound up getting a pretty clear idea of his personality and really going in heavy on his design.
Not sure how much I've really got to say here admittedly, think Adam pretty well covered it. I do hope that everyone enjoys this though, as well as everything else to come with this particular subplot - got a lot in mind there that I've been quite liking the results of thus far.
