Heheh... Yeah, had a lot of fun seeing Margaret again. ^^ Like I mentioned, she's essentially written as Lois Lane, and I do love Lois's attitude of rolling with the punches but still trying her best to take things on her terms.
In general, since we had a pretty long sequence of Vespi being the kids' fun aunt, I quickly got attached to the idea of the next person being more abrasive and stand-offish, hence Margaret's attitude being a mixture of pissed they're visiting her and not caring. It also is a nod to Lois since prior to having her son she really wasn't that crazy about kids (my headcanon is also now that Jon's in the picture her patience for children only includes him). At the same time she's pretty accepting of them coming into her office in the middle of the night. Then again, she does say it's not an uncommon occurrence for her.... Yeah, liking this scenario more and more as I re-read the page. ^^
Due to time constraints on my end, Martin was nice enough to do the shading on this one, plus some tweaks and works on the lineart, even though he's got some big projects of his own. That said I should mention that for both of us, a depressingly large amount of our free time is going into playing Mortal Kombat 11. Like, I wish I was playing it right now, even as I type this sentence.
Yeah, I shaded this one, really wasn't meaning to but it just sort of happened since Adam had stuff going on. He did the hair detail and some touchups from there though.
Admittedly don't know how much I really have to say on this at the moment but I do hope that everyone enjoys it. First time seeing this office in a loooong time, not exactly surprising but did make it a bit of a pain to color given that.
We realize the desk's placement doesn't quite line up between the first and third panels, there kind of wasn't really enough time to fix it in a way that looked decent. I experimented with a couple of fixes in post but one just screwed the third panel's layout up and the other made her look like she was flying in the first one, so just decided to leave it. We put out four comic pages a week and other projects, it happens, what can ya do?
Still happy with this one on the whole thing, think the expressions are good and I kind of like putting over how while able to fend for herself she was pretty shaken by the whole Marvelous Man thing.
Yes, Margaret as the crabby aunt, this can be an interesting turn. I was wondering how you feel about how Bendis has written Lois lately, and if it informs how you're handling Margaret
Heh. I actually haven't read Bendis's Superman run yet; I like the writer quite a bit though, so kinda curious how he handles her. Come to think of it, his usual super-fast, snappy dialog would fit her perfectly. I'd have to get a look to see how I like her, though.
But my main takes on Margaret is the Margot Kidder performance with the DCAU version for snark. ^^
I'm not sure how recurring she's gonna be though, certainly less so than Vespi. But she'll probably show up later in this arc. It just makes sense for a superhero story to have a recurring character representing media presence and I've really grown to like Margaret too much to drop her now that the Marvelous Man arc's been resolved. ^^
Until proven a bad guy undeserving of such (doubtful such will occur but possible), I am unofficially declaring her Auntie Margaret!
