Yeah, right off the bat we really wanted Protocol to make a big impression, and I think this page does a pretty good job of it. Right into making her look cool and really putting over the powers, and wasting no time in putting over how observant and intelligent she is. Really want to emphasize those things a lot in regards to her.
Wanting to say the idea of her hacking Grant's phone was my idea? Remember Adam was kind of struggling with how to hurry up to the kids talking to the Peacekeepers and wanting to say that I threw that idea out there. Honestly a lot of this chapter kind of came out of random suggestions of mine... granted not as much as the next one but we'll get to that when we get to it.
All I've really got I think but hope everyone enjoys. If you saw the new Wright as Rayne you saw that we figured out how to color anti-aliased lines in a timely manner - that particular change will be making its way to Blues in the next page.
Heh... Yeah, Protocol now makes her formal appaerence in full armor. ^^ I wanted to really put over that she is part-machine, with her ability to mentally export and cross-reference data with federal databases, shut down machinery just by thinking, and has insulated her body against electricity.
Honestly, more I've written her, more Protocol's almost become a Big Good figure in the comic; logical and intelligent but also having a sense of justice and compassion. I really, really hate the Straw Vulcan trope and wanted to avert it hard with her by having an intelligent and logical hero who was no less competent and loving because of it.
But yeah, wanna say the phone thing was Martin's idea. Originally the idea was for Protocol to fly up and talk to them face-to-face but the phone thing seemed less confrontational.
Eheh.... The "Zach Morris" thing was NOT intentional. Those guys were meant to look uber-patriotic, and to get it right I looked up a lot of pictures of villains from Bioshock Infinite. The Big Bad of that game is named Zachary, and his other names, Hancock and Morris, are names of founding fathers. It wasn't until I was at work that Martin told me it was also the name of a certain blond sociopath from early 90s television.
Protocol honestly seems pretty cool to me. Do I think she'll hear them out? Yes. Do I think she'll actually help the kids? Not a chance. Clear this lady knows her stuff with the law and those kids are a legal landmine. While I don't know if Grant simply carrying Lore around in costume spectating a superhero fight would actually qualify as illegal, or anything Protocol might call them out on...I think she'd turn them down but do so for plenty of good reasons.
Still the fact that she actually asked that seems to show she's at least willing to let them try and talk. So yeah. Dr. Fremont = Awesome so far and hope she continues to prove to be awesome.
Heheh... That's all good to hear. ^^ Am glad she's making a good impression, since I was really hoping the Peacekeepers would be warmly received. We really did NOT want to do another storyline about an insufferable hero after the Marvelous Man arc. ^^
Interesting word choice. Did you mean previously been convicted or giving the tech guy autocorrect problems?
.....
I feel stupid that I had to go back and edit the dialog and it's NOT the Zach Morris thing.
