Hehhe... Yeah, this page was all Martin's idea; it puts Rick front and center in front of the reader, which is good because he's the main focus of the chapter. Seriously, I've written 10 scripts for this and the kids are only baaaarely in one of them. Just keep that in mind going forward, they're not gonna appear until, at the earliest, halfway through the chapter. ^^ Just a heads up.
Also, if you didn't read the various Blue-blog entries, you might wanna back up and do so now, since they play into it. ^^ You'll notice the hand Rick is holding are all characters in the newsreels he watched.
Speaking of, me and Martin actually sat down and figured out what card each girl would be. We were joking about how it was a crappy hand until Martin pointed out as I was drawing it, "Wait, this is a full house." If you can't see, Mantioda is the queen of spades, Khelsea is the queen of hearts, Lillie is the 2 of diamonds, OZ is the ten of spades, Wilma is the Joker, and the nameless extra in Rick's sleeve is the 2 of clubs.
I really loved doing the Blues kids here too. ^^ They're very fun seeing their personalities in how they play cards. Nicky looking at his siter's cards is the obvious one, but there are other little touches. Andy is clearly hamming it up like he's the gangster in a Bugs Bunny cartoon, Lore (who we've tried to write as being Book Dumb) is struggling to figure out what's in her hand, Valerie has a sharper mind for math and figures and probably knows what the odds are of her hand winning, hhence why she's smiling.... Grant is embarrassed at Nicky's cheating, and Jenny is just having a good time. Oh, actually would've been a great touch to show Jenny having a big stack of chips; seems like she'd be lucky like that. ^^
Either way, hope everyone enjoys the chapter. See ya~
Funny thing, very last minute - as in well after the page had been set up - I realized I had used the existing file for the logo on the page, that we've been using on the past few covers and on the site banner, rather than a redone version I did recently. So I fixed that... and then decided there was room for improvement with the redone version so I hurried up and redid it again. For what it's worth it'll be up on the site banner before too long, but we need to redo the shots of the kids at the top of the page first. Been meaning to get around to redoing those and the background pictures on Wright as Rayne for some time now, but they've not been the top priorities.
And of course if you're reading this on DA then that whole paragraph was completely meaningless.
But yeah, chapter 24! We've been super looking forward to this one, going to be a very different ride from the normal but one we're really hoping people are going to enjoy. Like Adam said, this is... not the entirety of the kids' presence in the beginning of the chapter, but just about. Good getting the chance to see them a little early with the updated hair, though.
We actually did put a good bit of thought into who would be what card, though probably need to go into the specifics of that later. Likely not hard to see the broad strokes of it though, if you've been reading the blogs. Hope everyone's been doing that since... Yeah, those are probably going to be fairly critical to understanding certain aspects of this chapter.
Okay, I know it's worked out for you this time, Rick, but seriously, if you're going to hide a card, who hides a 2?
... In case anyone doesn't know, the full house would be Mantioda, Khelsea, and Wilma being three Queens while Lillie and the extra are a pair of 2s.
