Heh... Awkward thing is I dunno quite how much I have to say on this one..... I like how rapidly OZ turns out to be the intelligent, sensible one of this group but kinda all I got. This is mostly just us trying to establish a few things about the group now that they've officially turned up. Actually, the main take-away from this page is Rick snapping himself out of being in awe and actually starting to step up and handle things. Couldn't move forward if he were still baffled.
The idea of the catalyst being the ghost was Martin's idea. She's rapidly become my favorite member of this group, so was happy to give her some early spotlight. ^^
Pretty happy with this one but not entirely sure how much I have to say on it. Very much a transition page, albeit I think a pretty fun one, enjoy the back and forth of everyone and a lot of the art here. Gotta like that spunky Wilma in the third panel.
I feel like there's probably a little bit of a time jump in between pages here, since thus far we've only actually seen OZ call him by name. Still, yeah, they do all know Rick's name already, which'll be something we more go into a couple of pages from now. I like the way Rick isn't letting that get lost on him despite the obvious other crazy things to be distracted with here.
Kind of wonder if Wilma was just super desperate for booze or if she genuinely doesn't know what color alcohol is, seeing as she comes from a world without it. Either way think is a pretty fun gag, really puts over the ridiculous cartoon physics of Wilma - we'll be seeing a LOT of that with her.
I was kind of going to wait but really since Adam did it on the last page this seems like a decent time for me to get into where I was coming from on the formation of this group, especially since the basic concept of it was my idea... By and large this started at, "What if Tenchi, but it's a bunch of girls from TV shows and movies?" Wilma was the starting point from that - Adam got his timeline wrong there in that this was well after Skullgirls had come out and much more around the time when I tried getting into it - though really just kind of the broad strokes of, "Living cartoon character with ridiculous physics." Mantioda and the starting blocks of Khelsea came just after that - original idea on Khelsea was that she'd be sort of the kind of perfect rival girl you see in a lot of shows who would be a threat due to being automatically better at everything and having a way of captivating people to her side, but Adam wasn't feeling the idea so eventually her being a vampire grew out of that. Mantioda meanwhile I feel like has probably been the most static of the group, even her design never changed as drastically as the rest of the group's did, though it did still shift some.
OZ didn't take too long to come up with and has mostly been fairly static, Technical King had already been long since established in Wright as Rayne so was a logical thing to connect back to; most drastic change to her is that her original design was... not good. Though we'll probably get into those during the next round of filler, more proper place to show them off.
The basic idea of Lillie was more or less always the same, but her characterization shifted along the way - instead of being all happy-go-lucky aww shucks about everything, originally she was a bit more of a shrinking violet; it eventually felt redundant with the ghost so we decided to start going in this direction instead, think it really pays off. Speaking of the ghost... She was a later addition from the rest of the crew (to the point the group shot of the crew's original designs doesn't even have her in it) because we decided we wanted it equal with the kids, and there'll be more to say there later on since we haven't really quite gotten to the point where we can entirely go into her yet.
I love that rick is all "okay, I've freaked out enough, lets start being productive with my mental cycles and start asking smart questions." seriously, it's like you guys somehow channeled my perspective on how to deal with life-changing bullsh*t. "act as if this is normal for you until such time as you can ask questions about what has happened; if in a time-critical scenario at the outset, Roll With It 'till you have an opportunity to actually do the freaking out, and then move on as best you can."
Heh. Well, last time Rick didn't roll with the punches and instead just blurted out the first things he thought of, a guy dressed like Satan used his face as an ashtray. I think that experience taught him how to really start reading a situation.
