For what it's worth I actually kind of pushed for dropping that first panel? I dunno, I think it came out funny but am a little worried it might be a bit much. You can't really see anything but still. Lot I do like about it though - the subtle bite marks and blood indicating Khelsea was biting Mantioda, Wilma's foot on Rick's face, Wilma still having her bow on, and the fact that apparently Rick was able to work something out with Mantioda are all good. Either way, yeah, all we're seeing of that whole thing.
Another thing I like is that Rick's going ahead and including _______ in his tally of needed beds / rooms despite... Y'know, she's a ghost, she'd have no actual need for either of those things. Just kind of a nice gesture on his part. Really as is the bed thing in its own right - I kind of get the sense that as shallow and as immature as he kind of can be, Rick is a pretty caring person and is actually concerned about these girls he's found himself now living with. Probably a lot of the stuff going forward with this group (because they're definitely coming back) is going to be going into some aspects of that. Of course another good show of it here is him putting a blanket over Lillie, think that's a cute touch.
Speaking of the ghost though... She can talk! Yeah, it's been kind of fun doing the silent thing with her and seeing how much we could wring out of that, but definitely wanting the character to talk, especially given Wilma also doesn't really talk so much; we pretty much always intended to wait until late in the chapter for this to happen, and we'll go into that a bit more in the next page. Really hoping everyone is going to enjoy that one.
If this TV thing is confusing to you... Heh, understandably so but it's a callback to an anime that was a fairly major plot point in Wright as Rayne. Long and short it's where Sarabeth got the initial Starchild costume from and this ended up causing some fallout for Alex afterward. Don't think it's actually come up in WaR since that storyline wrapped up but it went on for awhile. Granted, we've referenced Stargirl in Blues before, offhand know Jenny and Lore's room had a poster of it and I think Jenny's been seen watching it a time or two. This time's really the most direct nod to it though.
Heheh.... Okay, yeah, I didn't realize until partway through drawing that first panel that it was pushing the boundary for this comic. What really gave me a moment of clarity was Martin talking me out of including various weird paraphernalia, like OZ wearing a ball-gag.
But this is genuinely a moment I've been wanting to do since the start of the page, one of those ones where I did it over and over again in my head. I think this is a weirdly intimate moment; late at night when everybody else is asleep, Rick and _______ getting a moment alone together when she finally starts talking for the first time. I just love the quiet, reserved feel of this page, especially thanks to Martin's lighting giving everything this gentle, calm glow of the TV.
In general, this is a good way of showing Rick growing up a bit as he realizes that the girls are with him to stay. I think he didn't even consider the long-term ramifications of this, but it's only starting to sink in now. The fact that he's immediately thinking about what's best for them and trying to help Lillie do a lot to make him look good, I think (I love how Lillie smiles when Rick puts that blanket on her). ^^He was kinda always designed to have a sort of "Children Raise You" type thing going on with this being a cue to make him more responsible and intelligent. .... Slightly. The bar for him on both those traits was very, very low at the start of the chapter, I like to think it's a bit higher now.
But yeah, this soft moment will continue on Saturday, hope everybody'll enjoy it. ^^
Like Martin said, Stargirl is... Heh. A bit of an odd subject to pop up, though he covered it in his comments. ^^ Stargirl is just an anime in this universe and was the basis of Alex's Starchild costume. I wanted _______ to be watching some Magical Girl show, and the idea was that her OWN show is really obscure, so it felt like a fun, easily place to cameo.
I kinda get the impression that Rick eats a lot of cereal and never cooks. The grinning evil clown on his box is a reference to the real-life cereal mascot Kringles The Clown, which is fairly high up there in terms of "Oh, Dear God, what were they thinking?" as far as food mascots go.
