.... Do I go overboard with the "Jerk Has A Point" trope? Between this and Spencer, I mean?
So yeah, did anyone else see Grant's parents in the first page of this sequence and think "Wait, why are they there? They're okay with the hero thing?" This is why. They're here for different reasons and are perfectly fine with leaving once it turns out that's not the case.
In general I really wanted to highlight (and then tear down) that the other parents want their kids to act like... NORMAL kids; going to normal grade schools and forgetting that their super-powers are a thing. Something about that snap-back seems like a natural response when you find out your kid's current lifestyle is full of danger, but Grant's Mom is up-front about how that's wrong.
In general I really love this speech since she despite saying some extremely hurtful things, she also shows that, unlike the other parents, she at least is able to acknowledge Grant's talents and wants him to embrace his full potential. In a way, that's a pretty clear-minded view of the situation. .... Too bad it's stapled to... some of the other stuff she's implying.
I also just love Lori mentioning she's the only parent who DOESN'T want her sister back in "normal school" with other six-year-olds.
Ooo, actually, there was a joke I and written for this page that got cut to make room for Gail's speech.... I meant to work it into this scene later but never got a chance, which sucks because I really liked it...
[5. Mini-panel of Andy raising his hand, his mother suddenly shouting at him. Designed to look like a very Azumanga-ish gag.]
Blair: I want my son to be with children his own age!
Andy: Uh... My friends ARE my own age-
Blair: YOU KNOW WHAT WE MEAN, ANDY!
Pretty happy with this one - it is good getting to see Grant's parents take a bit more active of a role out of how even compared to the other parents they've been out of focus, and do think this is a pretty good moment of Grant's mom being simultaneously very supportive and yet very insulting and backhanded. Think communicates a lot about their relationship with Grant - I get the sense they buy him a lot and probably consider themselves good parents for it but are very detached and hands-off otherwise. Wouldn't be surprised if this is the first time they've really been involved in Grant's business this much.
Further backing up that point, that apparently they pay so little attention to Grant that they actually buy it when he lies.
Not really sure what else to say on this one offhand given how it's a very talky page in the middle of the scene, but I hope everyone enjoys.
There a lot to be said for keeping you kid in the grade with age Peers when it comes to develpmenting social shill
As long as the kid is not being boarded to tears then they not learn positive social skill then become disruptive simply trying to cope with the bladed which inteun isolates them
That oss on of the strong suits of the school, as it gave them on level academic as well as on level social develoment

Ave if it lacking on physical develment side
I do like Grant's just telling like it is and seeing how a lot of the parents are wrong for the most part. All so she is not mostly right ether.
All so the way she talks about her son, I think she could be a sociopath, I don't know I think she may be mentally ill.
All so love panel 6 and the horrified looks the kids have.
Lastly for a True Blue Filler who guys could do a shot of all the parents looks as they are being talked to by Grant's mom.
