If you're checking this right as it goes up shading is going to be a few minutes late - shouldn't be too long, probably 10, 15 minutes tops, but kind of unavoidable. Mostly my screwup, I didn't realize that while I had colored most of the page I hadn't done all of it yet, so cue a mad scramble soon as I woke up to get the thing finished in time to submit and the end result's done just a little too close to the wire to get the shading finished with it right away. Which is also why I didn't put quite as effort into spicing up the background as I've been doing lately, just didn't really have the time for it. I might end up spicing that up later on, but for the time being focus is on us wrapping up the shading to get the proper form of the page up ASAP.
Yeah, kind of embarrassing this whole thing. Still, do think this page came out pretty well on the whole and will definitely be sure to avoid this issue with the next page. And with the next WaR one for that matter, it hasn't been colored yet either though that one's a lot lighter than this is anyway.
So turns out the biggest mistake of the day so far is actually Telegirl! Hey, at least it's not just the kids whose inexperience is screwing them up, right? Granted what I do like is that if this weren't Decay Conductor or someone else capable of destroying walls in an instant this would actually probably be a pretty good plan. It's just as it is it was very poorly thought through. At least she's cute about doing it?
Also I like getting to see Protocol with a real sense of urgency here. Think does a lot to show that while she's very cold and serious she's not a robot by any means.
Heheh... Yeah, this was a moment I'd had in mind since the start of the fight; thought it was a really great way of showing just how versatile Decay Conductor's powers are and how dangerous she can be with them. Heck, first time we saw Telegirl she was ready to teleport random criminals into holding cells without checking beforehand; that was clear foreshadowing to her messing up and doing it here.
Helps that the last page made the kids look too incompetent, and having Telegirl pop in to lose track of Decay Conductor was a good way of evening things out. Since Telegirl is easily the least experienced member of the group (think she's easily less experienced than the kids), it made sense to have her be the one to mess things up too.
I like how Decay Conductor's lines relay information that the fight's been going on longer than we've seen, and that the kids really did just come into things halfway. She specifically references attempting to gas and blow up Protocol, the latter of which was already implied by her shields being damaged.
In general what I like about writing Decay Conductor is that she's actually really brilliant tactically. Her power is awesome, but what makes her dangerous is that she can consistently bait, lure, feint, and outplay the people she's fighting. She probably used that brief break in the fighting to just duck back out of sight and go under the radar for now. This weird cat and mouse is what REALLY makes her threatening.
Hm. Crap, we haven't really gone into what Decay Conductor's trying to accomplish yet, have we? I'll have to write that into the upcoming scripts...
OH! Also, the first panel was something I kinda hastily wrote in after we'd done the last page and I suddenly remembered that Valerie shot her beams at the first Qrime Qure and he just no-sold it. I think Felicia's got less control and tolerance with her suit due to not having the years of experience Quentin had.
