Aaand there we go, that's the filler. The next chapter of the comic will start next update with its cover. ^^ This was a fun format to work with, the Secret Origins stuff.... I don't know if we'll ever do it again. Anybody want to share if they liked this one or if they want to see another like it? Might help decide.

Yeah, the idea is that Protocol has been telling her backstory specifically to the families of the Blues kids. I've kinda liked doing the coy, slow reveal of the circumstance, like a camera slowly zooming out on an image that's obscure. The payoff is what ultimately makes it, though; turns out there's a reason she's relaying this backstory in-universe, and a reason she felt someone needed to hear it.

I was struggling for a bit on how to write her ending speech, since it felt like she was encouraging them to let their children go into danger, but eventually just had her explain that while being afraid for their kids' lives was a natural response, they still needed to accept the reality of their condition without necessarily seeing it as a bad thing.

We've seen that the parents, Andy's especially, are uneasy about not only the super-hero part, but unwilling or unable to grasp the level of competence their kids now operate on. That's sort of the matter being cut to, and hopefully Protocol's backstory will give them some perspective on the matter.

For the record, Grant's parents were originally gonna be here, but in addition to me being too lazy to draw them, it didn't make a lot of sense for them to be there. They're perfectly happy with Grant's superhero abilities and career, so this really isn't a speech they needed to hear (they need a DIFFERENT speech). The more I thought about it, the less I could see them standing around and listening to this backstory; if they were there at all, they would've walked out by the end.

Heck, come to think of it, Protocol's final point is a nicer, more respectful, and less backhanded version of what Grant's Mom was trying to say in the last chapter....

But yeah, think that's all I got. Dunno if we'll do this backstory thing again, but I did have a lot of fun with it...

Yeah, that was the overall point of this whole thing - tie it back into what's going on with the kids right now with Protocol delivering a pretty needed bit of perspective on how the parents are reacting to them. The whole thing of how the kids are being perceived thing is a pretty key part of this whole arc and all so was a natural way to bring things together there.

Funny, not actually sure on how much I have to say beyond that but I am pretty happy with this one. I do like getting to see more of Protocol's perspective on things, plus getting to call out the awful, "Smart people are miserable," cliche that you see so much.

Next chapter starts on Wednesday. Really hope everyone's going to enjoy it, probably be very long but it's one we've been very eager to get to.
