Weirdly sinister ending note given how light of a chapter this is going to be, though I do see Martina being a generally serious character even when there's comedy happening around her. For instance completely failing to acknowledge what all's going on in the background here.
Speaking of oddities, I guess Wilma's gotten in the habit of having a splash of color with her general aesthetic via random ties. I like the contrast it adds to her - sort of just that little extra bit that feels like it makes her a bit more integrated with the world around her, y'know? Related it was actually pretty disappointing to learn that it doesn't seem like any of the new stuff I've been doing lately can be applied to how Wilma's coloring is done. Granted this is kind of a weird in-between page on a lot of that, stuff like the wood seen here is done differently than how I've been doing it in for instance the more recent Wright as Rayne pages. I think the next one is where everything catches up and gets more or less on the same level with it. Not that I think the differences are drastically noticeable in this particular page anyway.
What else... I'll let Adam get into the Franklin subject, probably a pretty noticeable aspect of the page here now that we get a better look at him. I dunno, I'm running on minimal sleep and it's kind of a transition page, sort of coming up empty but I do hope that everyone enjoys.
Gaaaah, completely forgot to comment on this and now scatterbrained and nnn...
A lot is going on in this page too; lemme start with the big stuff...
We're trying to show that despite still being spoiled and disrespectful, Rick is gradually becoming a more responsible person. He at least realizes that his Grandad's magical items and resources are dangerous, and won't even consider sharing them with someone else. He's still probably not the best person to be left with it, but he's making an effort to turn around and be more of a grown-up.
Martina, likewise, shows off just how much she hates people who've had things handed to them. She hated it with Sareena, and she ESPECIALLY can't stand it with Rick, who's been casually flaunting it. That's why she has absolutely no patience for the guy and doesn't even bother hiding her contempt.
Martina took note of Nine Eyes' description of his animated puppet body, and the idea is that this is a new one constructed to supplant the need for a human host for Franklin. The idea with Martina is that each time she's shown up she's leveled up or improved in some way, so this was a natural next step for her to take.
Like we said last page, Rick and his crew are just easy to come up with quick jokes for. Mantioda and Khelsea making out and Wilma breaking the bottle she's drinking so she can menacingly brandish it weren't in the script, but just came about while drawing.
I think the group sort of view Rick with a sort of weird mixture of respect and dismissiveness. OZ cares enough about his safety to monitor his conversations and presumably phone usage, e-mails, probably bills, but doesn't care enough about his wishes to even consider that this might be insensitive. Especially since she sees no issue in stepping in whenever she thinks it's appropriate.
That new girl with the blonde stripe in her hair... I've been thinking about characters for future stories... Hm. We'll put her in this chapter and see how it goes, shall we?
OH! One more thing... That text in the third panel came out much smaller than I intended.... But the labels read "Life-Prolonging Experiment Test 4" and "Innocence Essence."
