So if you've been reading WaR you'll have noticed we've recently started doing this thing when people talk on the phone, we're drawing a little head-bubble where you see them.
wrightasrayne.thecomicseries.com/comics/925

Martin got the idea to do this emulating Persona, since phone conversations are super boring to draw, and this went a LONG way to making things more entertaining. It gives a ton of visual flair to the conversation. Which is good because I wouldn't've felt comfortable having everyone only communicating on the phone to coordinate. Gotta say, one element of this story arc I've really NOT been enjoying is how everybody's living apart with limited communication means. I either have to keep coming up with ways for them to all be in the same room when trouble starts or sink a LOT of time into them playing phone tag or hanging out in a chatroom. It was a fun change of pace at first but by now I've really come to get annoyed with it.

Eh, this page was a LOT of fun to try, though, immediately showing various households coping with the regression in various ways. Andy's parents are at around his age, Heather's now got an eight-year-old Mom and a three-year-old Dad. Very cute. ^^

Speaking of which... Heather's back! First time since the time-skip! Her and Lenore have both been additional issues with this story arc, since we can't see either anymore outside of filler. Heather has a great new design, though. The idea is that Valerie is siphoning energy off her more often, and her condition has become more manageable, enough for her Mom to take her out to a salon for a new 'do. She still needs her containment suit and touching her skin is likely still unpleasant to anyone who can't absorb thermal energy, but we love the new look. I was so disappointed that you couldn't see it that well in this page that I wrote in "Hey, look at her" front-and-center panel in an upcoming one.

Martin mentioned last page that Andy has a pretty big effect on Lore's emotional state; when she's upset or frightened, he can make jokes and breeze up the situation in a way that makes things okay. I think Andy knows this and leans into it, and this forms a lot of their relationship, which is why they're so cute together. You can see he's already finding the situation more amusing than anything else.

Lore's Derpy-Muffin backpack has shown up in the comic before and I like the idea of her shoving her sister into it to carry her, emphasizing that she doesn't know anything about handling babies. This is also the first time since the time-skip we've seen her in her "Official" outfit of the pink lollipop dress, now with cute Trixie velcro sneakers. ^^

Martin's successfully gotten me into Three Houses, and I've slowly been making my way through the Black Eagles route, so the random extra in panel 2 is a little-kid version of Edelgard. Also the outside of Lore and Lori's apartment building has a large eagle statue sitting there. I dunno, I like just giving Sapphire City big statues everywhere.

Heh. I like how much more obvious Blair's eyes are when she's a kid. ..... Honestly, if we were doing the comic all over I'd strongly consider doing the eye thing with Andy.

A funny thing about this page, it actually had a lot of stuff I had to go back and tweak after having done the next one. The most immediately obvious ones are that originally here I made Lore's dress blue and that in retrospect the color I at first went with for Val's skirt looked too much like her skintone, but I think I also missed the whites of someone's eyes and did one or two other things like making the green on the sky slightly less prominent than it first came out. Hey, least caught it all before actually submitting, eh?

Heather's got a pretty overdue redesign here. We'd always intended to have her end up with longer hair eventually, but we decided now was a good time to move it up while we've been doing a bunch of other art tweaks, plus the Pride Month filler kind of made us realize that it was a bit questionable that her, Val, and Christina from WaR all have short hair so now seemed like as good a time as any to tweak her since she hasn't shown up within the comic proper in awhile now. ... Funny, she had kind of the orange points twice in filler but it never showed up in the actual story. At least there's a remnant of that with the flame effects on the hair she has now - like Adam mentioned we'll get a more proper look at her soon.

For the record I wouldn't mind also trying to fit Claude and Dimitri somewhere in this chapter. ... Maybe also Yuri? I'm not sure if he counts as a lord or not.

So much going on can't figure out what to say.

I think I am really going to love this chapter. I mean there are already great scenes in this page,

One of my favorite is how Alice has this look of confusion on her face, like she is very confused on how our parents become kids.

All so love how Andy's dad looks so much like Andy himself only he's more grumpy, definitely Andy got that laid back, sense of humor from his mom.

Love that Heather mom and dad as well as some of the others are having fun with it.

Here are some questions, question one is that a T-shirt of that costume Grant's mom tried to make him wear? Question two dose Grant have a brand?

Question three now that Heather's dad is a kid does he have all this fingers back? Question four will we see all of the BBH's parents as kids?

All so I think I know how this chapter will end with the BBH becoming adults and Martina becoming a little kid or a baby as all the other adults become well adults.

Am glad you're liking this so far. Yeah, Andy's personality being inspired by his Mom is something I try to emphasize but doesn't come up very much due to his Mom reeling from the superhero thing.... This was a very fun and natural way to bring it to the forefront.

1. I think his Mom probably made him wear it, realized it didn't look that good, and put it in like a "maybe" pile.

2. Yeah, Grant's parents are now selling T-Shirts with his logo. Alex in WaR recently bought one and was seen wearing it.

3. I don't think you ever see it in this series but yeah, the idea is that he's still missing his fingers.

4. I'm not sure if we ever see Val's. Everyone else's has popped up in the already-drawn comics by now but we didn't get around to hers. Maybe.

And Onasaki already mentioned this but yeah, I've on interest in portraying the kids as grown-ups. Think that's best left to the fans' imaginations.

I doubt that'll be how it ends, Babyigrl. I don't see the heroes becoming grown-ups for a while. I've brought it up to the authors in the past before.

This chapter has nothing to do with that level of role-reversal. What I think it's about, is teaching the adults that the kids are responsible.

That is to say, I think the adults of Sapphire City, will actually respect and realize they've been assholes to the Blue Bloods, and it'll be worlds easier for them to use *this* instance to prove they can be heroes the same way as everyone else.

If you also think about it: This puts the legal heroes in the same situation as the Blue Bloods. Which means, the legal heroes are getting a taste of how it feels, and will ultimately learn to accept the kids as heroes.

Also, keep in mind this spell is specific to Sapphire City. It's not affecting places outside of it.

This all being said: Holy hell, Heather looks great. Her hair's grown out a bit. I hardly recognized her! XD

You know what'd be interesting to come out of all this too? An opposing Kid Villain gang. I know that's a little cliche, but it would be funny.

You could be right Onasaki and it will be very interesting to see how Val and Grant act around their kids. And even if the kids becoming adults do not come true, I hope Martina becoming a little kid or a baby in a ironic twist.

Yeah, normally stories like this would have kids learning that taking care of babies and being the mature one is hard, but the kids have already learned that lesson. So the crisis is better used to illustrate that they're ont like other kids and are capable of handling big disasters.

Am glad you like Heather's new look, though. We experimented with it a bit to make her look just right, wanted it to still be her and still have a flame look, but be a lot prettier. She deserves to look pretty. ^^
